    That's probably the best 17" set up I have seen, they don't look too far off 15" rims! That's goo din my books, keeps it close to that muscle car look and the tires don't look like rubber bands. Good choices on the combo. :cheers:

    Well....I thought about it long and hard because I wanted improved handling but didn't like the rubber band look so I chose 50 series tires and I know I wanted approx 27" in back and 26" in front so that steered me to 255/50 in back and 235/50 up front on 8" wheels.  I really wanted to go wider in back but I was on a budget...I wanted Vintage Wheel Works wheels but AR was a bit less expensive but didn't come in anything over 8".  The tire choice was limited for this combo...I believe Kumho ASX and Nitto 555 were the only makers offering both 255/50 and 235/50 sizes.

    Looking at your signature you're putting out some reasonable hp/T.
    How is traction improved or lacked due to the new tire & wheel combination?

    Honestly I couldn't tell the difference off the line but my intention was for better cornering and the change did not disappoint there.  Last weekend I took it up to the mountains and did a little corner carving to see how balanced my combo felt and was pleasantly surprised.  Felt like a modern car.

    Good stuff mate, modern low profile tires play a huge roll in cornering grip. Again, sweet combo, best 17" set up I've seen. They just don't look like rubber bands - awesome. A shame you couldn't find any wider meat for the rear but, you can't win every battle and you sound pleased with the handling so a good outcome overall me-thinks. ;)

    Yep...if I went 9.0-9.5"  I would have had to get some 285's I think to keep the 27-28" height and then I would have been iffy with the clearance I think.  Plus AR didn't make these wheels widerthan 8" and the VWW V40's in 9.5" were about $100/per more expensive.

    The gray color looks nice with the red too. Picking wheels and tires is such a pain in the A$$

    I too am at a cross roads for picking something new and am daunted with all the combinations available/ yet not available for exacty what I want and can afford.

    Overall I think it looks great.

    That combo looks real nice to fill the wheel well,  whats the tire O.D. measure the next time you get a minute to measure....any interference problems ?.......thx.....dk

    Whats the rim size up front? i'm running the 255/50/17s up front on my car. Just maybe next time you have to buy tires, somethin to consider. they should fit, i have tons of clearance up front with em

    They do look great - I would have sworn that they were 15's. You went to the right place too - Howard down at Newstalgia has always treated me good - Great service. I had a problem with a set of rims that I had ordered for my Vette and he called Boyd Coddington's people and got it all straightened out for me quickly.
