Not sure if it has been covered but as far as running FWD cars on a dyno, when they really do put some power down it can be dangerous. Torque steer can walk the front of the car straight off the rollers. Also add that manual transmissions like to snap whenever someone 'drops' the clutch on the dyno. Just things to consider as far as letting owners run their own cars, there are many 'not so smart' hot rodders out there that may end up looking to you for why they're car took off or they're input shaft snapped. Also you'd have to make sure you strapped the vehicles down and set them up right if anything, thats another thing i've seen some hairy things done! Dont forget the big AWD crowd...those dynos are big $$$, depending on the car scene where you are, it may or may not be worth it.

Everyone, thanks for all the feedback.  I always think it is good to throw out an idea to a crowd such as you guys on the board.  People bring different experiences to the table and have brought up some things that I haven't thought about.

Reading into you guys input I would say that the collective thinking of all the posts is that it would be difficult to make money with a dyno only business, or at a minimum it would be a really risky investment.  So at this point I think I'll go back to the drawing board of ideas and think about another business.

Thanks again for all your input.

Have you looked in the phone book to see if such types of shops exist in your area already?

Have you priced out the equipment? Not just the dyno but the diagnostic equipment, etc.

What is the local rates per square footage for business space?

:iagree:

Also I would add, take a business class at your local community college. That would be your best investment. You may run through a business plan and after doing your market research, find out that it is not a good idea (economically feasible). Better to find out in class than in the real world.
