new guy in maine
« on: May 23, 2008 - 06:51:21 PM »
hello all, I have just recently purchased my new pride and joyand would like to introduce myself.  My name is jay and I have been enjoying all of your pics of your fantastic rides for about a week now.  My car (new love), is a 70 challenger which is in dire need of some tlc and a solid gameplan.  To keep it short,(for now),  can anyone guide me in the right direction on how to install the rear glass, as it was out when I bought the car.  It has a new top and the po didnt cut out the vinyl and never reinstalled the glass.  I will try to get more pics soon.  (it took me 3hours and 6 beers to get this one.  Thank you in advance, jay

Nice car, hope to hear more about it. The details you gave are a little vague but maybe cutting a slot in the center of the rear window opening would give you an idea of how the top was installed. Glued tight or just stretched.

Basically, if the vynil around the window perimeter is glued then you can cut around the opening. Leave a bit of excess for trimming, then start with installing the window and chrome. :poopoke:

Welcome to cc.com!  Glad you found us!  Car looks sweet!  Sorry about the rear window . . mine is pretty easy, just slide the glass in.   Yours . . .  :walkaway:

Seriously . . . I have to assume it's like the front.  Call the local glass company, they come out and lay a fat bead of black sealer, set the window in, attach the trim, a little tape around the edges and keep it out of the water for a few days.  All good.

This is how I put my rear window in. If the link doesn't work, then it is on page 11 of the Close to the Rock resto thread.
