Mopar big blocks and small blocks have many differences and each has it's critical steps you can't miss.  Paying special attention to the weak points will make for a more trouble free engine.  What engine are you doing?

If the guy is good, not just good at chevy engines, he will have no trouble getting the mopar right. If he is good at chevies, then find a shop and pay them. They do the same things, in different ways. there's at least 6 ways I can think of a Chevy experienced assembler (note I didnt say builder) can mess up and cost you money because they only know how to put a chevy together, as opposed to being an engine builder. And the commetns on cams, you guys are funny...lol. You really are. :roflsmiley:

The motor is a 73 340.

I am planning on having a machine shop boil the block and install the cam bearings, freeze plugs, etc.

Then we were going to do the rest.

Small block oil pan gaskets aren't the best so take extra care here unless you like leaks.  You can get a timing chain tensioner now for these which I installed on my 408 stroker.  Since they oil the top end/rocker shafts thru 2 of the cam bearings it is very important that the oil holes in the cam bearing line up properly.  I think this is already mentioned.  There are some other mods for hi-po engines of which some are outlined in the book mentioned below.

 Seems to me there was a recommendation about enlarging the oil passages from the cam to help feed the rocker assembly's.

I wouldlook for a 318 steel truck crank to put in it & have the rotating assy rebalanced , it is far better to have a neutral / internally balanced engine
