Is there an adjustment on a 4-speed console?
« on: May 26, 2008 - 07:36:32 PM »
My shifter bangs into the console opening when I shift into 2nd. Is there a for/aft type adjustment anywhere? Is it possible I have the wrong top plate?

Yes. The mounting bracket screw holes are slotted, about 1" long to allow for fore / aft adjustment.

Take the screws out, slide the console forward and see if the screws will still hit the slots.

the console will adjust front to back about 1" or more but the auto & 4 spd top plate is different , the auto is square cut the 4 speed has a curve on the divers side of the opening coming to a point

Do you have a pic of the 4-speed plate? I think I may have the wrong one.

I dont think it is possible to install an auto plate on a 4spd and be able to shift.

I'm sure my plate is square as well with the 4 speed shifter, but I clear in all 4 gears and reverse.

 :useless:

That would be great!!

After getting a new clutch my shifter hit the bezel plate too....the slots mentioned were enuf to move the console forward about 3/4".  Done.

Guys,

I pulled this from E-Bay.   :misbehaving:

This is an auto top plate. The 4-speed would extend a couple of more inches forward. I haven't found THAT pic yet.  :banghead:

Not sure if your car is original or not, but when I did a hack conversion of an auto to a stick in high school, I retained the automatic tunnel brackets but had a 4 speed console.  The console was too far forward and the shifter hit the 4 speed console plate when going into 2 and 4.  I drilled new holes in the mounts to shift it back (may have drilled inside the console too, can't remember).
