What shifter ?
« on: May 27, 2008 - 10:29:00 AM »
Got a Hurst shifter at a garage sale over the weekend.  Trying to figure out what it is.

Has a straight short shift handle, a "T" shaped lockout you pull and a seperate lever for reverse off to the side.

I'll take a pic or two when I get home, if needed.

Sounds like a V-gate in-line Hurst from your description.

Just checked Summit, is this what you have............

Looks a little like that, but with another shift handle on the near side.  Looks like I'll get a couple pics when I get home.  Problem is, my hard drive took a crap this morning, so I doubt I'll be posting from home any time soon.

It sounds a lot like a inline manual shifter with a stick for reverse gear.  Used a lot on Chevy and Ford manual gearboxes.  The shifter should travel forward and backward and when in nuetral it should push down or compress to select the other forward and backward gears.

Push down and forward is first gear, while pushing down and pulling back is second gear, pushing forward and up is third gear, puling straight back is fourth gear.  Select neutral, push side lever to select reverse. :2thumbs:

sounds just like my early verti-gate shifter except you don't have to push down to get to the 3-4 gate
the early v-gate had a T handle to down shift with and the later one has a ring on the down shift handle ...with a small black ball on the reverse handle

OUTLAW,

That looks a lot like it, not exact but real close.  Mine didn't have the T handle or the linkage, but it has the adapter to go on an 833.  Can't complain for 6 bucks.
