If I'm reading your timing #'s correctly and you have 51* AT IDLE with the vacuum advance connected, then you have it connected to the wrong port. It should be on the ported vacuum port which should have NO vacuum at idle. It is on the pass side of the front of the carb.

nope, 51* at rev up. 15 degrees at idle

Hadn't checked the coil either. Points to electronic, I think there was a difference, can't remember
Hey Alan,

The coils are different buddy.  So it will need changing when Drew gets the chance. :2thumbs:

Alan,

I put an eddy carb on and it runs better and is getting much better gas mileage. however, it changed up everything else that we did. i am just trying to get it to not ping now. i think i may have a bigger problem now. the rear end sounds like i am dragging chains. started hearing it when i got back from your place. will have to check

Hemiken,

which coil? i just upgraded to the MP electronic distribuitor.

Makes me feel bad about your gears. I gave you a set and offered to install them before you left.....Come back

I can also redo your timing.  does it ping with the vac line unplugged?

dont think it would ping with the vacuum unplugged. will have to try that. i know you offered Alan, dont feel bad. I will figure something out. if it is the trans, it gives me more incentive to get the swap done sooner. if not, then i will probably be looking for a 323 or 355 suregrip chunck.

If you guys just swapped out a points dizzy for an electronic dizzy and did not change the coil, you shopuld look at getting something like an MSD blaster 2 but when you order make sure you stipulate it is for electronic dizzy :2thumbs:
