71 gilled fenders
« on: May 28, 2008 - 02:32:42 PM »
I'm sure there's thread I did not see. Has anyone had any experience with the new 71 gilled fender repops? Was thinking on tagging a set to store in the garage.

Thanks,  Ken

I don't think they're available yet, are they?  I heard some time during 3rd quarter, this year.  Also I heard the first shipment may not be gilled.
I have a set on order.

I saw them advertised in a Mopar catalog of parts that can be ordered from your local Dodge/Chrysler dealer.  They didn't have prices though.

Eastwood is advertising them too but their shipping is usually  :screwy: if you're far away.

Well here is the real deal on the gilled fenders, they are not out yet for any to have seen except mike at BE/A. their are 20 right side only on the water going to be in port in about 2 weeks. the rest of the container are 70's fenders. the next container in will have more of the 71 gilled right and the lefts. I have 2 71 cuda's here at the shop that I will test fitting them on and will provide pictures as asked before.
we will be one of the first distributors to get them in stock. If any one has questions feel free to email me. these will be goodmark fenders as AMD will not be out until fall at the earliest.

thanks mopardave,

Just about everyone with a line on them is trying to pre-sell to get you to pre-pay for them.

My brother in law bought a passenger side for his car. They look good to me but of course since it is not installed there is no way to comment on fit. I did notice that the gill hole stampings are not nearly as crisp as the originals. Minor detail that will be mostly covered up when the inserts are installed though. Sorry I could not have been more help.

Hmm....@1200/pair, I thought it may be more worthwhile to just get them instead of the say, $500-$1000 to have the gill patches properly (TIG) welded in (and just keep the B'cuda fenders for spares).

 :clueless:

If they fit like crap, forget it.

we have 2 70 cudas in our shop now and the fenders fit fine. I have sold about 8 sets of 71 gilled and have heard of NO fitment issues. I have a 71 that i will be doing sometime in 09 but that is going to be a while before i personally fit a set.
We have about 7 sets in stock if you need them. 659.00 per fender 10% off on one and 15% off for a pair for members. we have good rates on truck shipping.

Hey Dave, do you have access to an original gilled fender? If so you would easily see what I am talking about. What I was commenting on is really a minor issue and has nothing to do with fit. I have no clue how they fit because he has not even test fit his fender yet. What I was talking about is the contour of the gill cutout where the plastic inserts go. On an original fender the depression is straight down at a 90 degree angle and very sharp before flattening out to the cutout. The repop had a slight crease but much more angle heading down to the cutout area. Once the insert is in I think it would be pretty hard to see anyway. Just something I noticed.

Someone needs to put the louvres in and see if they stick out too much due to the shallow angle of the recess in the gill cutout:

OEM (I think):
