Shifter Boot
« on: May 28, 2008 - 08:51:39 PM »
Looking for my best deal on a 4 speed shifter boot with the trim ring . So far I'm looking at $85.00 which seems high to me .   :money: :money:

Are you talking about the boot and the trim ring top plate (the chrome part that goes over the metal plate)?  If so, $85 could be about as good as you are going to do.  You might get some discounts from guys on the board that sell them.  You can get some cheaper knock-offs, but they don't look right, they are flatter.

Dave - Just curious, what's the difference between the Ring ($40) and the bezel ($32)?

Sometime we have to buy the same part based on availability from different vendors. We usually stay with the lower price and block out the higher. this one may have been missed. We do have 3 AT THE 32.00

thanks

I feel dumb asking this but how do I get the boot on ? The hole for the shaft is much smaller then the pistol grip and has no stretch to it .I took the grips off and that didn't help . I'm working on the car now so if you know how and are reading this now please help . :pullinghair:

You will have to remove the shifter arm from the mechanism and slide the shifter in to the boot from the bottom of the shifter handle, pull the boot all the way up the handle and inside out to keep it out of your way while you reinstall the shifter handle. :2thumbs:

I considered that so the next question is how to remove the shifter ? I see a carriage looking bolt with a nut . I also notice what looks like shims at the very bottom of the arm , there is also some play there leaving me to think it must come apart there . If that is the case how would I get those shims to release ? :horse:

a 70 shifter you slide a .010 feeler gauge on one side and just jerk it out. I learned that here, man it was easy

Does that bezel include the moutning screws?  If not where do you get those?  Thanks.
