Anything interesting near these places?
« on: May 29, 2008 - 12:52:00 PM »
I will be on the HRPT in just over a week.  I was wondering if any knows of any interesting places to go to near the show locations.  I would prefer for them to be within 20 minutes of the locations, but I am open to any suggestions.  With the rising gas prices, I doubt we will be driving though these locations again anytime soon.  Thanks in advance.

Saturday, 6/7 Arkansas State Fairgrounds - Little Rock, AR

Sunday, 6/8 Missouri Entertainment and Event Center - Springfield, MO

Monday, 6/9 Heartland Park - Topeka, KS

Tuesday, 6/10 Nebraska State Fair Park - Lincoln, NE

Wednesday, 6/11 Iowa State Center - Ames, IA

Thursday, 6/12 Rochester Community & Technical College - Rochester, MN

Friday & Saturday, 6/13-14 The Alliant Energy Center - Madison, WI

Hmmmmm.  Not much in Madison, besides drunken college kids.  But they've all gone home now.  Rochester's got the Mayo clinic.  Are you a sick president and/or have a terminal illness?   :roflsmiley:  I'm just a bit too far away.  Madison is about 3.5 hours, Rochester about the same...   :sadwavey:

There's really not much to look at near Lincoln, NE either. I'll keep my eyes open for ya though. And, if you see my car, don't hesitate to come and introduce yourself. The same goes for anybody else who is going also. I'd love to meet some of you guys.

Come on Dave!! Nothing near Lincoln, NE? If you like college football, could tour Memorial Stadium. Not real exciting, but if you have never been there, kinda cool. If you are traveling East on I-80, you can stop at exit 426 and see the SAC museum. Lots of planes and history in there. And Omaha has a pretty nice zoo. Probably more, but drawing a blank right now.

I just wanted to let you know that Saturday June 14 is just for the Long Haulers.  They will not let other people into the show on that day.  That is when the awards/gifts are given to those who made the whole trip.  I hope you can make it up there on Friday to see the show.

Okay, thanks

Thanks for the other ideas everyone.

Hmmmm that don't sound good. But I know the parking lot there is massve, I would have to think allot of locals would be checking it out. I don't think they would lock out the entire parking lot, but who knows. Quite often they have 2 or 3 events going on there at once. I guess I'll find out one way or the other. Booked at the shop on friday so saturdays my only chance...   :walkaway:

Oh boy, you are not joking.  Last year when we went I could not believe how much corn is grown in those states.  It just went for miles and miles.  I wish you could go, I think you would enjoy it.   :2thumbs:

I am not sure what it costs to be a spectator, but I think it is a little high to bring in a car.  You may want to review their website at www.hotrod.com  I hope it all works out for you.   :2thumbs:
