Whats the word on the aluminum 440 source heads?  $900 fully assembled and ready to bolt on.

Yes they are 900.00 but the consensus is to change out the retainers to 10* due to a rash of failures.  Still the best route to go as far as heads go.  The Stealths flow better OTB then Stage VI's.  Also there is a lot of maintance with a 6pk setup,  I would go 4bl setup with a large carb 950+   :2cents:

Hey all,

Just got off the phone with Vic....the short block is done!  :bananasmi  :ylsuper:

Next up, the heads.....He's got some 452's laying around that he will open up a bit and redo the valves, retainers, and springs.  We're going with a slightly larger valve (2.14/181) to give it a little more umph than stock.  Once that's done, then we'll move to cam, lifters and push rods.....taking suggestions on a cam please.....I LOVE the sound of a mild to big cam....nothing like the "chug, glug" noise coming out of the hood.....please help me with this because I am real ignorant when it comes to cams and their setups.

I use the older UltraDyne grinds available through Lunati , TF series lobs with around 250* @ .o50 & .580 lift for street engines running up to 6000 Rpm

Yes, please....because now that the short block is done, I want to get the best setup/match for the top end items.  I'll be running a 6-pack setup for sure, 452 heads, but outside of that, I don't have anything else "set" in stone.  I see on Lunati's website that they recommend using correct valves, springs, etc. to match the cam....is that just a sales pitch to get you to buy their items or is it really recommended?  If so, I should probably pick out a cam with the builder so he knows what set of hardware to get for the heads, no?  :dunno:

No sales pitch, springs need to match the cam profile.

Do not use Lunatis solid lifters if you are going flat tappet , they are stupid heavy , the hollow Mopar ones are better

Went down to see Vic again today....he had a spacer for my 360, so we put it in to help with the vapor lock and boy did it work well....but I also got to see my motor since the rotating assembly went in....Here's some pics, sorry the one is so fuzzy, but it was taken with my phone camera.  They just got a new balancer when my assembly arrived, so they were balancing my stuff and were having so much fun with the new machine that they didn't realize how GOOD they balanced my parts.....I guess .2 on the crank is good enough for Pro-stock or Nascar, according to the balancer sheet....mine came out .07 and .05...  :woo:  He'll give me the print out once the motor is all done, but to say they least, I'm very happy.

I disagree once set a 6 pack will nt cause problems if it is set correctly anyway
