My 440 engine I could not use the gaskets with the valley pan either.  RTV around the valley pan.  Note the "ribs" in the valley pan around the ports.  The ribs crush upon torquing and create a seal.  i was told these pans were "one use only".  Perhaps after being crushed from an initial installation, one could then use the gaskets to salvage the pan (I never tried that).

I have used the same valley pan with the new gaskets and rtv seal, no problems until now. Keep us posted how it went.

RDF, what cam did you decide to use in the motor?

Was able to work on it this weekend and it went successful!  :bananasmi  I didn't use any gaskets, just black rtv and it lined up nicely and appears to have sealed as well.

I also got in all new fuel and brake lines too:

Need some advice on a proportioning valve.....I don't want anything fancy but something that will just go with my current setup.....front disc and rear drums.

I'll have to dig through my paperwork to see.  I had the motor built 7 years ago and having 3 kids since, I've forgotten most of what's in there  :banghead:

Been busy on the 'Cuda the past few weekends....I put my headers on to see how they would fit and turned out the driver's side was hitting slightly on the 2 inner pipes (on the steering box).  So I took it to a good friend of mine who's done all the fabrication on my car (frame rail supports, motor plate, etc.) and he was able to bang them in with a dolly and hammer.  Took them home and tried them again....they fit but it was still pretty close, so instead of taking it back down to him (30m away) I just used a ball peen hammer and modified it myself.

Had to push it in my bigger garage....I forgot how heavy this thing was with the motor in it  :faint:

Just this past month I've heard of 2 stories where guys didn't have jack stands under their cars while working on them and the car fell on them.....unreal....I've put 3 on this side plus a floor jack on the motor for my own safety.

Driver's side looks ok with the motor jacked up.

But as you can see, the 2nd pipe is definitely touching and the first was too (a bit further down) but I couldn't get my camera on it.

Passenger side?  No problems!

Here's a rough outline of where the pipes are hitting.  I just wanted to give my friend a larger reference point rather than relying on the minor scratches where it was hitting.

This was the clearance I had after my friend did the work.  I wasn't comfortable with the left pipe still being close so I hammered it in some more.

Once I did that, it had more clearance and I felt better about it.  As you can see, the outline of where the indention needed to be made came in handy.

So after all that, I took them down to a local place called Performance Kote and are having them coated with black ceramic.  It'll take about a week or so to get them back but I'll be excited to see how they look!

Still looking for some help on a proportioning valve.....I don't want an adjustable one (for the reason I simply don't know how to adjust them or what it's actually adjusting) so looking for anything stock or something that will replace stock.

Hope it works out for you,  but rtv around intake runners will dissolve.  Gas eats rtv. Should only use it at each corner and the valley pan ends :2cents:

Took a nice 10 day vacation to Gatlinburg, TN last week with the fam!   :rebel:  What a great time!  We did everything from horseback riding to the alpine coasters to white water rafting.....felt good to get away for so long!

Anyways, my headers were done while I was on vacation but I finally got around to getting them yesterday....I must say, I think they turned out awesome!

Thank you kind sir!

I got this radiator from a fellow member a couple of years ago and I finally got around to getting it custom fit for my car.  I'm thankful I know someone who has the talent to do things like this and think outside the box to come up with new ways of doing things.  He ended up making his own brackets for the sides and in the front, he cut away the old metal that was getting in the way and used a smaller but stronger support for it.  Overall, I think it turned out excellent!

Got some time to work on the beast again and put the carb on.  I wish it were more of a gun metal grey color but that can come later cause I could really use the funds towards the things I truly need.  One thing I noticed is the posts on the carb will stick out with my rally hood.  :bricks1:  I didn't want this added expense but I will probably go with a fiberglass hood with the scoop I like.  I've found a few here and there and with the help of redo1973's thread, I was able to find a shop just 40m from me.  That may be my best option, especially since I can save on shipping and just pick it up.

I tried to get my camera at the same angle as the hood would line up.  As you can see from the highlighted red area, the posts stick out quite a bit.

Here's the hood I was thinking of going with.

I've got my old intake for sale if anyone is interested.  It's brand new and never been ran yet.  I'll post pix and more info in the For Sale section.   ;)

So I decided to go with the adjustable valve instead of stock.  Also picked up a fuel pressure gauge too.  Hoping to narrow down a power steering pump selection soon.  Outside of stock, any suggestions?
