How I spent my summer vacation (so far)
« on: June 02, 2008 - 12:41:08 PM »
Well I haven’t been here much lately, still trying to clean up after the tornado hit us last August.  To refresh you memories the tornado took out about 200 plus trees, mostly 80'-100' white pines and some cherry.   So I've been cutting and dragging them out to the easement.  See Pic 3584 for one of the log piles. No body wanted the white pine so I called in a guy with a portable saw mill to cut them up in to 1 x 8 for T&G paneling in the basement.  I couldn't see all that wood go to waste.  Can't burn that much pine in my wood stove.  Check out pics 4252 and 4256 for one of stacks of cut wood, its 18' long.  Enjoy the pics, I hope this doesn't happen to anyone else.

Glad everyone was OK.  Nice stack of wood, how long does something like that need to dry out before You use it?

They sawyer said about 3-4 months for pine and about 8 months for the cherry.  I really depends on thickness and type of wood.

Thanks for that.  I guess that's why pine is cheaper, well that and there are more pine trees.LOL.
