Fresh Oil Change Yesterday

Took the Cuda out of storage and changed the oil.  This stuff cost $4.29 per quart.

 That is pretty expensive indeed.  As an alternative, at about $2.50 a quart, does anyone have an opinion on running diesel motor oil such a Chevron Delo 400 or Shell Rotella T 15w-40. I heard these still contain the additives most of the automotive oils have eliminated.

the folks at Comp Cams recommended I use the Rotella T for cam break-in, but told me a lot of folks just keep it in and swear by it!!

The diesel oil will be losing all of the extreme pressure additives soon, to keep compliant.   The additives, were killing the converters, and now most of the diesels are catalytic converter equiped.

Best is to buy several bottle of the break in addtive that Comp Cams sells, and add them to basic oil during the oil changes.

That is not too bad, I'm using the $7.00 Royal Purple 10w-40 in mine.     Good thing it is only once a year.

 I heard the same thing that the additives will soon to be removed from the Diesel motor oils. i am rebuilding a tractor motor right now and the machinist said to keep an eye out for the change. The engine needed an atomizer and along with the order came an additive that is suppose to help maintain the injectors. Are the the necessary components in Diesel fuel now being removed too. If so, would that be the Sulfur?. Thanks!

I got Rotella in this new motor right now. Using it for break in. Good stuff. Been using it awhile now.   I may switch to  castrol with an additive after 500 miles     Hmmmm.....

   You both mentioned 6 quarts.  The specs say engine capacity is 4 quarts.  Add 1 quart when changing the filter.  That's 5 total.  Do you all have a larger oil pan? 
I have always used only 5 quarts when doing an oil change and filter.
