Brembo Disc Brakes!?
« on: June 03, 2008 - 01:38:32 PM »
Have you guys seen that Brembo disc brakes are now available for Mopars?  Just Suspension has them on their website and in their new catalog.  Has anyone tried them yet?  I was thinking about going with Wilwood or Baer, but having Brembos would be awesome.

That is awesome. I wanted to install Brembo's on my Challenger but the only thing I could think of was to modify SRT 8 brakes. My other option was Baer brakes, but now that those are available I will order a set probably later this year.

I know that brembo has brackets for the Ebodies, or at least schematics for them. I saw them a few years ago. Rewind to the Spring Fling in 2004, 2005. There was a plum crazy '70 Challenger that had Brembos on it (and GIGANTIC 22"-24" rims). I spoke with the car's owner, and he said that the plans indeed exist, kind of an back-door-created-after-hours thing. That is good to hear that they are easier to find. I had a helluva time trying to get those brackets for my '58 Coronet (I had Challenger spindles on it).

Limited to 12 inch rotors and no rear parking brake on the setup they show.
Very nice looking, much better than the Baers of an equivalent size. Little pricey for 12 inch rotors?

No better than Wilwoods, Baers, Stoptechs, or even most factory offerings. Yes they are nice, lightweight, and look cool.
After doing a little more reading I see their kits come with new spindles and lower ball joints. That kind of explains the higher price than their competitors.

Willwoods arn't fully sealed and aren't great for street cars.

Wilwoods may not be fully sealed, but how many of these cars are four season drivers still? The part time drivers that most E bodies have become means they don't put enough dirty miles on them for the seals to be a big issue.

FWIW, Brembo makes the factory calipers used on Vipers. You can convert to the Viper set up with bigger 11.75 rotors for half of the cost of the Brembo set up. Stepping up to a 13" Viper set up is still going to come in under those prices.

The SRT 8 vehicles all run Brembos as well. I know I drive my Challenger whenever rain or shine and am thinking about making it my daily driver again.

SO do you think for the guy who get his car out drives 3k miles a year the wildwoods would be safe?? i think they are the sharpest looking brakes  and they seem the easiest to put on.

IMO, yes, they would be fine. There are several members on here with them and in the pro touring crowd Wilwoods are probably one of the most popular choices out there.

i drive my car on the street at least 5 k a year, and my wilwoods are still sealed , and i dont have an issue with dirt, seales leaking nothing,i highly reccomend wilwoods, you will not believe the stopping power, lighter un sprung weight, look cool too!
However make sure you get the right axle hub, as there are 2 sizes they make, i got the wrong ones , as the hat/rotor was not centered on the hub because it was to big and resulted in being centered on the studs, this made a bad vibration, so i purchased the smaller hat/rotor,and had them machined to fit the hub, this is on the rear of axle, hope this isnt to confusing, but over all they are very nice brakes , way out perform the stock brakes

Another option to using the entire Wilwood kit is to use the ARE brackets and the Wilwood calipers. This drops about 5 pounds per wheel and give you the larger 11.75 rotor which means additional braking leverage. Down side is you don't save as much weight as you would with the Wilwood hub and rotor assembly.

You sure that wasn't a purple 70 Cuda owned by young guy, Larry? He is a fellow clubmeber. It was in Popular Hot Rodding. He worked for Brembo at the time. Car had a 360 with fuel injection.
