Well it has to be somewhere in the vacinity of 2,819. Because only 2,819 340-4 speed 70 Challenger were built but the number of actual A66 cars from that lot is unknown to me :2thumbs:

Was every 340 car in 70 an A66? Did they come with automatics also?

Every 340 four-barrel in 1970 was an A66 car, and yes they could be ordered with an automatic

Well, kinda sorta......

The two known Challenger T/A pilot cars started life as JH23H0B cars. They both have fender tags with the JH23H0B VIN number, A66 code and options.

They both left the factory with JH23J0B VIN tags though.  Just a little Challenger 340 trivia that some may not know?  :dunno:

Great information guys.  :2thumbs:  Possibly the A66 was the birth of the T/A. Or vice/versa. :clueless:

Actually, the Yellow Jacket was the design exercise for the T/A.

It was just too expensive to produce in numbers.

The A66 vs. A53 code on the two pilot cars does bring a question to mind as far as the sales percentages go though.....

Were they counted as A66? A53? Or both maybe?  :clueless:

A53 is the sales code for the Trans Am cars - AAR Cuda & Challenger T/A.

The Yellow Jacket was built on the original premise of the T/A cars. It was a show car that was redone later as the Diamante. It started life as the first Hemi Challenger R/T Convertible made and was modified into a custom two seat show car.
