Mopar Action had an article about the purple T/A pilot car a year or so ago and there were alot of fender tag oddities (legit) on that car.  I remember the A66 code.

just a cautionary note about Wikipedia, anyone can contribute to that website, the person adding info to the Challenger Wiki website may not be any more knowledgeable than what we have in C-C, so who knows if their numbers are any better?

Approximate numbers for four speed A66 cars built for US sale;

Convertible - 66

Hardtop - 1,830

Canadian & Export numbers are not known.

Thanks Barry,  Where did you find that info?   I guess I have two rare cars..with the A66 and the T/A.   Do you know exactly how many T/As were produced and how many were 4 speeds?

Thanks!!!!!

 Do you know exactly how many.................

Thanks!!!!!

Nope, I do not. No one does, not for any particular car.

The reason for this is that Chrysler tracked the sales percentage of the total, not the exact numbers. And even then they only tracked the cars built for US sale.

One of our members here wrote an excellant article on the T/As in particular that explains how the T/A numbers may vary. Here is the link;

Your four speed question is answered there as well.

As for where to look for the numbers, most people (myself included) use Galen's white books to get a general idea of "how many".

Not to create drama but my 6th editiion white book shows US sales:

2819 - hardtop 340 4spd
66 - convertible 340 4spd

Do I need a new book?  :dunno:

Was every 340 car in 70 an A66? Did they come with automatics also? :popcorn:

 Maybe some of the 340's weren't A66's  :clueless:

The Dealer Data Book contradicts itself.  The engine page shows it's optional for the Challanger:

But the standard and optional equipment page doesn't have an "S" or "E" code for the 340:

However, the Salesman Pocket Guide refers the 340 engine option to the A66 package and does not show the MSRP for just the engine:

I'd say that the 340 was only suppose to be available within the A66 Package.   :2cents:

It does not say N/A though either.  ;)

Since it was only availabe with the A66 package which was covered seperately, they apparently left that space blank?
