Swirl Mark Help Request
« on: June 06, 2008 - 12:35:32 PM »
After spending many hours wet sanding and polishing the paint on my dark blue Cuda it looks pretty good.  However, in bright sunlight you can still see swirling.  It kind of looks like grease swirled on the paint and not the swirling scratches. It bugs the heck out of me.  Does anybody have ideas as to what to try?  Perhaps I should try another application of the swirl remover or...?  I am using a rotary buffer.  Perhaps the speed is too low??

You can try Imperial hand glaze or 3m filling glaze.

We at my shop use 3m#05954 rubbing compound with a #5723 foam pad to buff with  it will not leave any swirl marks if done right. We then com back with Meguiars #83 polish with a #5725 foam pad. This system works fantastic on dark cars. We just finished a 32 Hiboy that was black with no swirl marks. We do not even use swirl mark remover as this just fills them and they will come back if not taken out to begin with.

This is interesting as the rubbing compounds seems to be a heavy cut polish probably similar to what I used.  However, the Meguiars #83 is a cleaner/polisher which I'm guessing is a little more aggressive than the swirl removed.  Perhaps that is what I need to try.  I'll give it a shot.

Thanks to all for the suggestions - I'm still scratching my head on the corn starch  :clueless:

I had some Meguiars Fine Cut Cleaner so I spent the whole Saturday morning polishing the sides and roof.  I think it looks better but we've had to bright sunlight and none is expected this week so I'll have to wait and see if this did the trick.

If that doesnt work use 3M swirl remover/polish with a 3M black foam polishing pad. Its the last step before wax that I use on every dark colored car. A coat of Meguires Gold class wax should seal it up nicely! :2thumbs:
