9 second ride!!
« on: June 08, 2008 - 02:19:27 PM »
Hey folks,
I know a lot of the folks here race and a few have cars that run in the 9's and below in the 1/4 mile (old school). I got the thrill of riding in a high 9-second street car today. A friend that works in a machine shop ( I think he runs it) and builds some awesome race engines, offered to help work out the bugs in my Challenger. He does a lot with my car club and a lot of the members have used him for engine builds. Well I went out to his house this morning. I thought I was going to need a GPS to find it. A little far out!! We tweaked the Challenger and he immediately found a burned plug wire where it was arching out on the header (what a dummy as I didn't find such an obvious thing), and my timing was way out and I need lighter springs in my distibutor. After a few runs down the road we pretty much had it tweaked in till it can really be fine tuned on the dyno. I was drooling  :drool:in his garage instead of paying attention to tuning the Challenger. He had a '73 Duster race car (slightly street legal) with a 600-700 HP stroker motor that runs high 9's with a full interior. He also has a funny car that runs low 7's in the 1/4 mile. That's what I really wanted to ride in!! When we finished the Challenger, he said, "Hop in the Duster". He fired it up and we went down the street. I saw him snapping up the 3 point harness and I was scrambling to hook up mine. He nailed the gas, the front end must have come a few inches off of the ground and the next thing I know we were doing 140 MPH!! :scared: I shi_ my drawers. We turned around and did it again.  :burnout: I know a 12-13 second car is fast. Even 11 seconds is real fast, but 9 seconds is a SCREAM as I have never ridden in anything that fast!!! I'd love to ride in that funny car!!!  Now my Challenger seems like an old Volkswagon bug!!  :roflsmiley:Well, I gotta go change my drawers!!! :smilielol:

Cool  :ylsuper:, you must have had a blast. Sure would be great to have a ride in a 9second car.
Some more tweaking with your Chally and you`ll be there  :2thumbs:

 :burnout:    :burnout:     :ylsuper:    :ylsuper:

As you just discovered, when you stand on the gas of a 9 second car, you better bring your "A" game, cause they get moving in a big hurry....    :grinyes:

Also gotta keep a sharp eye out for these guys...    :dupe:       :roflsmiley:    :roflsmiley:    :roflsmiley:

My previous car was a 9.0 @ 150 street legal car. Power windows, A/C, cruise control, etc ina 3800 pound Grand national 6 cylinder. It was a handful on the street and turned up at the track you barely had time to think betweeen driving and shifting gears. I have never ridden shotgun in a car that fast, only driven tem so I bet it is a totally different feeling when you are just hanging on and watching. Especially when it starts skating around on the street!

It is very addicting. You get bitten and your wallet will always be in hand.....I love it.  And just think, after the 9's another 6 or 7 grand buys you the 8's
