Hey folks,
I know a lot of the folks here race and a few have cars that run in the 9's and below in the 1/4 mile (old school). I got the thrill of riding in a high 9-second street car today. A friend that works in a machine shop ( I think he runs it) and builds some awesome race engines, offered to help work out the bugs in my Challenger. He does a lot with my car club and a lot of the members have used him for engine builds. Well I went out to his house this morning. I thought I was going to need a GPS to find it. A little far out!! We tweaked the Challenger and he immediately found a burned plug wire where it was arching out on the header (what a dummy as I didn't find such an obvious thing), and my timing was way out and I need lighter springs in my distibutor. After a few runs down the road we pretty much had it tweaked in till it can really be fine tuned on the dyno. I was drooling :drool:in his garage instead of paying attention to tuning the Challenger. He had a '73 Duster race car (slightly street legal) with a 600-700 HP stroker motor that runs high 9's with a full interior. He also has a funny car that runs low 7's in the 1/4 mile. That's what I really wanted to ride in!! When we finished the Challenger, he said, "Hop in the Duster". He fired it up and we went down the street. I saw him snapping up the 3 point harness and I was scrambling to hook up mine. He nailed the gas, the front end must have come a few inches off of the ground and the next thing I know we were doing 140 MPH!!
I shi_ my drawers. We turned around and did it again.
I know a 12-13 second car is fast. Even 11 seconds is real fast, but 9 seconds is a SCREAM as I have never ridden in anything that fast!!! I'd love to ride in that funny car!!!
Now my Challenger seems like an old Volkswagon bug!! :roflsmiley:Well, I gotta go change my drawers!!!
