ANOTHER new job!!
« on: June 09, 2008 - 08:21:27 AM »
Hahah - no no, I didn't quit the current one, nor will I be.  I'm actually getting the hang of this project controls stuff.

As part of the wonderful utility corporate world, we receive an occassional "level 1" schedule from the execs in Columbus.  This schedule shows every project that the company is doing in at least the next 5 years.  Of course, right now, American Electric Power (AEP) has work scheduled out to 2020.

I reviewed our recent level 1 schedule, and saw where AEP is preparing to build their first-ever Wind Farm starting in January of 2009.  At the same time, my dad saw that they are beginning a very small retrofit-upgrade project to a coal power plant in Texas.  Dad wants the Texas job because my parents are going to begin traveling the country in a huge RV.  This will give my dad a chance to stay with his current employer while trying to sell the house, buy an RV and truck, get everything set-up, etc, and not have to worry about finding a new job too.  So he made the call to his boss and basically said, "Give me the Texas job."  His boss of course, said "Okay!"  Then dad said, "Oh, by the way - Jeff wants the Wind Farm job."  The boss of course, said, "Oh.. ..Okay!"  He can't officially give me the job because it's not his immediate department, but all these guys work together, so he's going to express my interest to the managers meeting today (Monday) but with the request being made by my father, the job is pretty much "in the bag."

I'll actually start prepping for the assignment in the next few months (that means 15% to 25% overtime.)  The proposed site for this plant is in Randolph County, Indiana.  Right now there isn't even a plot of land purchased, so this would literally be a "from scratch" job.  I've always been a fan of Wind Power - not because of it being excessively Green or the fact that it's almost "Free" energy, but because I think wind turbines are beautiful pieces of art.  I just think they're so cool looking!  I did a big study of wind energy in college, and already have sufficient knowledge to get started with this project.  I would be the Master Project Scheduler, and the assignment would likely be accompanied by a raise.

Things are continuing to look "Up."  :)

Thanks again to all the C-C.C members who supported me in my heardships earlier in the year.

Yeah unfortunately that nickname may be short-lived.  If I get the assignment I'll have to become Mr. 7 hours...

All I have to say is, I'm not sharing a room with MEK!  Don't wanna get that dog fur all over me...

Congrats on the success with the job!  What do you mean by the crack about Mek?  It sounds like the dog fur comes from Mek!

That comes from the frequency at which MEK is "in the dog house" by April's measures.

Did you move?  It looks like you'll get to take the title here soon enough - 2009 you should be Carlisle's closest Cuda Challenger member.  :)  We'll have a passing of the torch ceremony in '09!
