Instant Karma
« on: June 09, 2008 - 10:14:53 AM »
I thought this story would brighten the day for some. Yesterday I was driving along the highway and there was road construction being conducted to the point where one of the lanes was closed and everyone had to merge over. Of course being a good driver and not wanting to be one of those jerks who races up to the end of the lane and tries to cut in I decided to get in the only open lane early. When I got up to where the lane did end low and behold there was one of those jerks, and normally I would have just let him in and think to myself he'll get his later, but for some reason I did not feel so generous today and decided that under NO circumstances would this person cut in front of me. So I pulled up close to the car in front of me (we were traveling at a crawl) and refused him admittance. He tried and tried to cut in front of me but I refused. Then he started to yell at me for not letting him in and I continued on my way. Finally he took off and cut in front of the guy in front of me and continued to look back and yell at me for not allowing him to cut me off. I just smiled and waved which apparently really sent him over the edge as he really started to yell (at least I think he was yelling I couldn't hear him  he had all of his windows up). Then all of a sudden while he was so focused on yelling at me he rearended the car in front of him. I couldn't believe it, instant Karma. Normally when you see a jerk on the road nothing happens, but for the first time I got to witness instant Karma.

I did the same sort of thing once.  I'm a big guy and was driving a nasty looking pickup truck, not much intimidates me. I was trying to stop some motorcycle from getting in between me and the guy in front of me.  He finally pushed in after giving me a real nasty look.
Actually, it was probably the Hell's Angel patch on his vest that convinced me to let him in. I'm kinda glad I did, there were six more waiting for him at the next intersection.  Ya never know.

That depends.  If he was driving a ricer and he hit burnt orange's truck, it might not have done any damage at all.

I'm a home inspector and I was approaching a sub-division into which I had to turn right.  I was cutting it close on time and as I got to the intersection a car going the opposite way made a left turn right in front of me (without a signal), cutting me off.  I was going to lay on the horn and flip the driver off when I thought better of it.  Followed the car down the street and the car pulled into the house I was about to inspect.  Turns out it was the buyer's real estate agent, whom I'd never it.  She looked embarrassed, I didn't say a word and she has been referring clients to me ever since.

72 Hemi, good story.  I have one similar, I was crossing the Mackinaw Bridge (it joins lower half and upper half of Michigan).  I was in my truck pulling my 5th wheel camper,  I try to always leave some room to brake, cause it's a lot of weight to stop.  Anyways, it cut down to one lane on the bridge because of construction and traffic was slowing down.  So these dufusses in an old ratty lincoln fly up on the right of me and cut me off and jam on their brakes, because traffic slowed down at that point due to the bottleneck.  Well I hit the brakes and just throw my hands up in the air in frustration, well they must have been looking back for my reaction, and because they did the same thing I did, plus gave me the finger.  Well there is not much I can due hauling a 7,000 lb camper on a bridge, plus my son was with me at the time.  So I just bite my tongue and tell my son "I hope you don't drive that when you get your license.  Well, finally get over the bridge and sure enough there is a State Police Lady Cop reading them the riot act on the side of the road, with her ticket book out.  I just drove by with a big old smile on my face.  It turns out there was another state police behind me and he must of called ahead to her.  Karma, ya gotta love it.

Glad to hear everything turned out OK with the karma payback.

Last year one of the soils techs on our project in Bakersfield was following a couple rough looking guys weaving down the road doing way below the speed limit. When it turned to four lanes he gases it and gives them a dirty look as he goes by. They followed him to the jobsite, then both get out and approach him.

He is small guy so they must have thought it would be easy to take him down. What they didn't know was he had military police training. They both went away bleeding but he was none the worse except for a few scratches. Could have gone the other way though if they were carrying a piece or decided to come back again after sobering up.  :-\

You gotta love it when somebody sinks their own boat when they've done you dirty. Just give em a little rope and they'll eventually hang themselves!! Glad you didn't rear end anyone there 72hemi!! I love the stories here. I rear ended a full size truck with a huge diamond plate step-up bumper in my little S-10 Chevy pickup. It was totally my fault. No damage to his truck but the ball hitch took out my grill and radiator support. Cost me about $200 bucks in parts. I could have cussed and shown my _ss. He started to pull off at an intersection and then suddenly stopped. I was rolling & didn't react fast enough. Instead I managed to be polite and even laughed about it. I was headed to church for our Wednesday night youth service. During the service I went up to the altar to pray wth a young man at the altar on his knees. When I looked over, guess who it was??? The young man I had rear ended earlier!!! Ya never know!!  :angelwings: Instant Karma???
