5-spd

I'm installing a Keisler 5-spd in my 383 '70 r/t.  Curious if anyone with this transmission can comment on performance, problems, regrets, etc.  My motor is essentially stock with .030 bore and a slightly agressive cam.  Hoping to get good driveability (low rpms and improved mileage), but still have better than stock performance. Thanks for your input.

might try a search on Kiesler on this board and youll see quite a bit.



for me it was among the best mods I have spent money on.   I would do it again.    (I installed the Trans completely by myself, no helpers)

I had 3.55 gears when the car was an automatic, but I had better results with 3.23 gears with the Tremec.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but I was going to make another thread and this can be answered here.  Where did you guys mount the clutch master cylinder?

right next to the Brake master cylinder

I've only had mine a short time.With 3:91's it was the best upgrade I could have done.Now I can take it on the freeway.No problems.Beefy speedo cable.Good fit.Easy.There is almost no linkage compared to the A833.I am very pleased with it's performance.The new bellhousing from Classic Mopar 5 speed made it easy.The only thing I don't like is in 1st and 3rd the lever is far forward.But I'm not in there to be comfy.A small adapter plate mayby. I really like it though.Having a blast tearing it up the canyons!! :woo:

  The Kiesler conversion is a good one, check their site and Brad on themopardude.com has a pic of how it is done.
  The conversions I have seen a very neat and look like factory, gives you a chance to run lower rear end gears but still have a good highway speed.   :2thumbs:

If putting these 5spd kits in place of an automatic, does something need to be added to the crankshaft end? Pilot Bushing or something called like that?

  Some cranks are drilled out and all you have to do is install a bush into it. If the crank is not drilled you will have to drill out a clearance hole, slightly larger than the snout of the gearbox input shaft and deep enough to take the snout. Go to your friendly spare parts dealer and buy a spigot bearing for a Dakota, it is a bearing that centralises on the back of the crank.

We installed the Keisler 5 speed late last summer, and it was a great package, the people at Keisler are great to work with (Talk to Gene) The install went very smooth and I would do it again. The biggest help that I can give you is to read the directions and follow them to the "T". This was the best upgrade to our challenger we have ever made.

I put a Richmond 6-speed in mine.  I got mine used from a former member here.  Total cost ended up being almost 4k and I already had a 4 speed car.  That included the trans, the beefier crossmember, the drive shaft, clutch, pressure plate and throw out bearing, new tranny hump and installation (had a local shop put it in).

having done 3 installs so far they are not my favorite swap , we have had problems with Ks machine work to modify them [constant leaks] the last one dropped the rear of the engine down to far so the headers now sit too low even with the tunnel clearanced , I will stay with the A833OD until I find a better solution , I have not tried the Richmond swap but I bet it is a better deal , if you still want the Tremec there are other companies that are better to deal with like Classic . I have had more guys tell me about breaking second gfear in the Mustang versions , how are they going to stand up behind a Mopar that makes torque
