Door hardware painting?

 Hi all, haven't been around in a while 
 
 Just a quick question.
 I am bead blasting all the inside door hardware, (regulator, track, etc....) and I was just wondering how you all have prepped and what you have painted them with? Something preferably from Autozone/C.A.P. etc.....
 Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You're right, you haven't been around in a while. I thought maybe you bought a Nova or something and bailed on us!

I bought a can recently and can't remember the name but it has some sort of zinc in it. I did not try it on anything yet.
I'll check when I get home and let you know.

Hello my long lost brother,

Glad to see you around again old mate.
Make sure you spray plenty of white grease around and not too thich with the paint, clearance issues show their ugly head with paint build up.


Hey Jeff, in your travels, do you ever come across any 37 - 41 Willys sedan or pick-up front doors for sale ?  I know you get around and love doing those tin hunting road trips.

Dude!  Where have you been?  We thought you went by way of the '72 Hemi Cuda!!!!  Or Whitey Bulger...        Glad to see you're still hangin' out!


Geeze, I think I have undercoat on mine to tell you the truth, no joke!  When I pulled off the panels there's sort of undercoating stuff inside tha panels and on other stuff here and there.  Are you planning on showing off the regulator/tracks at the next car show?  You can paint them Plum Crazy to match the body color... 

J/K ...    IMO, that metal is pretty thick metal that isn't prone to rot/rust if we're just talking the mechanics in the door, not the door itself.  Yeah, you can go the zinc chromate route (Like Kenny mentioned not too thick!) but I would just cleaned them up and use plenty of lube as 30+ year old parts may have some clearance issues and what not.  The the more lubricated, the happier the parts will be. 

Like Kenny mentioned, white lithium grease on the tracks/regulator sliders and at the scissors point (whatever you call it, I'm brain dead today...  ), anything that moves.  Other areas (if you're not painting) that don't move a light coat of WD-40 stuff will keep it from getting any surface rust if the surfaces are cleaned.

 Unfortunately I have not ran across any 37-41's in my travels lately, but you never know what's around the next corner. I'll keep an eye out for you, but that's a tall order...........so don't hold your breath

Bead blasted, and I opted for zinc chromate, and Mercury Marine Phantom Black paint.

And no Phil, I did not paint it on the hood.
The spot that looks like it could be over spray was actually a piece of a wet carpet that was on the hood.
I heard the dampness was great for preserving sheet metal

Reminded me of my brother's '80 Turbo Trans Am that he wouldn't let anyone touch when I was a teen-ager.  He said I could work on it and fix it but not drive it, so I said no way.  Why should I put my money into his car and not be able to drive it? 

Sooooo, it sat in the garage, I needed to spray paint stuff and since his car looked like a perfect height to spray paint stuff....     It was also a good place to store a 12ft. ladder....

It wasn't my fault......that F  N welder kept getting bound up.
Also the beers were going down WAY too smooth and fast for me to attempt to keep up with myself
