All our Challengers are special!

Sorry, I have to get going so no time to decode but it looks like it's a base Challenger (JH, not JS that denotes a Rallye Challenger for '72 only.  '73 and '74 Challengers were all JH cars) that someone special ordered a 340 in it so it is special in that manner!

Is that B24 or 824 above the H2B?  If it's 824, it's an early '72 car.  Do you have the door sticker?  Does it have a '71 date?  Do you have a Rally gauge cluster?  If yes, does the tach go up to 7k of 8k?  if it has an 8k tach that's a left over '71 gauge setup.  My '72 sched. build date was 8/17/71 and it has a left over '71 Rallye gauge set up.

What is the "I" in the middle of the tag???  I never saw that before!
1972 Dodge Challenger Rallye 340, AT, Code TB3=Super Blue, SBD=8/17/1971.  Yes, a Rallye without the fender louvers from the factory because of the body side molding option.

Yes - special order cars are special.  Here's your breakdown from an online decoder.  I corrected the "I" to mean "International" and the "XW" to "black and white":

Thanks guys  :ylsuper:

So is it rare?  :grinno:  Is the "I"  special? I mean, how many tags with "I"s are there?

It has the standard gauges and sport hood (not tach).  No vinyl roof here  :eek4: Hmm... maybe that's why the rear window looks tilted.

So  :clueless: can I replace the heads?  Is the intake worth anything?  I've replaced it with an Edelbrock Air Gap.  I would really like to go ahead and start upgrading everything  :burnout: but I don't want to do that if it's special  :violin:

I believe the "I" stands for - "build to specifications for International order".  The E at the begining of the order number also shows that it was an export car.   I'm pretty sure that all these cars were Y39 "special order" but I can't confirm that.  I think a lot of them were ordered by US serviceman overseas and they picked them up when they got back to the states.  Many of the cars never left the country.

I say build away!  It's your car afterall!   :burnout:

When the 340 is ordered, for '72 I believe it automatically got a sport hood, dual exhaust, chrome tips, and rear valence with cutouts.

Replace all you like that is bolt on and just tuck them away for safe keeping.  Like 2TAGS says, it's your car!

I'll be doing some bolt ons to my car like different rims, hood, Go-Wing, different hood, but all the stuff can be reversible, minus the holes for the Go-Wing.  My engine has never been taken apart so I won't go in the direction of heads and what not but since some mods have already been done to your engine then go for it!  Just save the parts.
