How much are you all paying for gas out of country?
« on: June 14, 2008 - 09:44:28 AM »
My 340 gets about 18mpg if I stay out of the 4 barrel. Today in western KY it is 3.95 per gallon. I am wondering how much gas is per gal in other countries. We hear so many questionable  rumors here in the states about oil prices. I would trust inputs from the members here much more than what our media slants out.

First of all, to clear a little info as I just learnt this myself, the gas we run in NZ, Shell for example sells 95 RON (90 in the US). I got this figure from the minimum RON and MON numbers (95 + 85 = 180 divided by 2 = 90). 95 is our common premium in NZ. Our regular (91) = 85-87 in the US. Kind of weird but good to know. We are paying $2.10 a litre at present which equals around $9.60 (-/+) a gallon in NZ. So, before you cry, please think of us, we're bent over fully here and have to take it where the sun don't shine. My Dodge Ram SRT/10 has a 120 litre tank, this equals $250 to fill it up.

At the second half of the 80:ies , I belieave at around -86, our gouverment decided to add VAT taxes to the gas price wich increased the price with 25%.
since then they been adding one taxes after another, for the benefit of the envoirment they say. But it`s just an excuse for the politicians to get some more money from the people. :bricks1:

At $9 per gallon or more, how can you afford to drive to work?  Unless you guys are all millionaires or make $50 per hour at work, I would have to work 2 jobs to support my driving habits or sell my cars and buy a horse.

I work for myself from home but most people drive to work and who said we are affording this? lol. No one is, public transport, car pooling, walking, scooter/mopeds, all measures been used to combat these petrol prices. It's hard times for sure but you gotta do what you gotta do. Simple solution is to cut down on other things, takeaways, movies, golf etc , I guess. Still, doesn't stop me from taking my toys out for an aimless drive lol Definitely at an all time high for our country and others, even food etc is high.

Here in outer Melbourne Vic. in Australia we are paying AU$1.75 per litre, one US$1 buys AU$0.93. When I first started to drive fuel was AU$0.12 per gallon (4.5 litres/gallon imperial). Diesel is AU$1.85 per litre and that is easier to refine  than petrol, our government double dips on taxes for petrol, they make more than the oil companies.   :villagers:

Comparing gas prices to other coutries depends on alot of other factors, wages, cost of living etc.The US government has there fingers in everything making it cost more due to taxes.I was in Aruba for my honeymoon years ago and we talked to a couple from Denmark about taxes and prices of things and they started to say how bad there taxes were-almost 50% of thier pay taken out.But as we talked more I realized that almost everything else is free for them-medical,etc. so it isn`t all that bad compared to us here in the US getting taxed ~25-27% of our pay but add in all the other countless taxes we pay every day-gas,meals,state,town,property,vehicles,alcohol,sfees added to just about every utility etc, etc, we pay at least 50% of what we make in taxes and of course we pay our own medical!
