I came to a sad conclusion Saturday
« on: June 16, 2008 - 11:42:33 PM »
I was at the Mopar Club of New Mexico show in Rio Rancho this last Saturday. It was a neat show with lots of cool Mopars. Well I finally saw a Butterscotch car in the flesh. I have only seen bits and pieces on my car that had not been repainted and some pics on the net of cars painted this color. When I saw the 71 Roadrunner my heart sank because I realized the color does not do it for me.
Originally I wanted to paint my car 1969 Q5 Seafoam Turquoise which to me is an awesome color, especially with a white top and interior like my car will have. I decided after a long process that painting my car the original Butterscotch would be the way to go and have had that in my head for the last 1.5 years. Now after finally seeing a car in person and after learning a guy here in this small town is going to paint his 68 Coronet Butterscotch I am pretty bummed. For one I dont want 2 Butterscotch cars in such a small town and second, the color just does not appeal to me the way I thought it would.
My car is nothing special so I am not hurting the value or anything by painting it another color but I was kinda psyched to have it pretty much back to how it left the factory. What would you guys do? Sorry for the long post

For one, I wouldn't tell Cuda Guy that you don't like the color Butterscotch....it is his favorite color.  :poopoke:

Second, paint it what ever color you want.  :2thumbs:  It's your car and you will have it for a long time, so you better be happy with whatever color you paint it.

Tough decision,I had the opposite problem.I wanted to paint my cuda B5 blue for the longest time but after tearing it down I found out it was originally V2 Tor-red(Hemi Orange) and even though I still love B5 I decided to keep it V2 and am glad I did.The color combo is about the only thing original on the car but in my case I really liked both colors.

Paint it "Panther Pink" and make it go up in value.

Seriously, paint it whatever color YOU think looks best, and enjoy it.

You know, you've really got to hand it to the folks on this forum.  There is another forum out there its initials are www.corvetteforum.com that would absolutely tear you apart for even thinking about changing the color of your car.  I posted I was putting on a replacement water pump and brake calipers from O'Rieley's on my big block 71 Corvette Coupe and got called a Bubba for doing so.  Listen to these guys, they want you to enjoy your vehicle and not be chained to the numbers on your fender.  Paint the color you want, not what everybody else wants.

I had pretty much the same problem. My cuda was org. lemon twist....but I don`t like yellow cars...My car is nothing like a one of,or something like that, so I saw a sassy grass green cuda and loved it at first sight. Sassy was the way to go.....until I came across more and more sassy cudas overhere.
There are appr. 20 / 25 barracudas in my coutry and I know now there are at least 4 sassy`s... :faint:
So I had to think again about what color to take ( after 2 years beiing convinced it would be green...)
I have chosen a light ,bright orange for my car. It `s no original color but I love it and there won`t be a second one around.   And also...I don`t care what someone else might think about not using the original color....It`s my car ,it will stay and I will have a lot of fun with it...and I pay the bills too... :burnout: :burnout: :burnout: :burnout: :woohoo:

Yeah the advice you guys are giving is dead nuts on for me. The only way I will really enjoy this car is to paint it what I wanted originally. When I saw a 69 GTX or Roadrunner article about a Q5 car with white top and gut I was hooked. The color combo just popped off the page. Even though it is not a 71 color it is still factory at least. At least I did not have to see the engine bay and floor/trunk pan in color to know I dont like it lol. I guess that will save some dinero there  :money:

I have to agree with everyone here.  I went through the same process.  My car was in primer when I got it, but the fender tag showed FY4 "Light Gold Metallic".  I really went back and forth in my head, because that color is SO rare, and I thought it would be cool to have it 'original' (and to match the fender tag).

My bodywork guy finally got me to 'see the light'.  He asked if the rest of my car matched the fender tag.  Well, absolutely NOTHING else matched my fender tag, so he asked why I was so concerned about that one item.  He pointed out that, for the expense and trouble, I better choose a color that I KNOW I will be happy with for many years.  So I decided to use the Hemi Orange, which I've liked forever.  And it is a color that was available on my car, and what I would have ordered in 1970.

You are lucky that you got to see a car in your potential color, before deciding.  I never did find a picture of the Challenger in my original color.  It's your choice, and your car.  Go with your gut instinct, and choose something you will be happy with.

:iagree: Paint it the way you want it, my challenger was originally B5 blue and I have been going back and forth in my mind for months trying to decide if I want B5 or FC7. My car is in no way original but I like both colors so much its hard to decide. But im going to build my challenger the way I would have if I bought it brand new in 1971.

These things you mentioned here speaks volumes.  :grinyes:  Skip the Butterscotch if it doesn't flip your cookies.  Paint it so you'll wake up every morning not regretting the color you painted it!
