Carlisle Campground
« on: June 17, 2008 - 06:50:13 AM »
Does anybody know of any good campgrounds in the Carlisle area?  We were going to stay in the Gettysburg area and drive up to Carlisle, but most of the campgrounds are full.  Plus, I guess it's Bike Week in Gettysburg (10th-13th) from what the campgrounds have been telling me.  That is not my idea of relaxation.  Also it would drive the dogs nuts, listening to those motorcycles, no offence, just reality, I used to ride myself.  Any ideas?  We have a 5th wheel and would need full hook up (wife needs it).

We stayed at this Campground last year and have reservations to stay there again this year.  About 5 miles to fairgrounds.......  Very nice park for the money.   We also have a 5er and found the sites easy to get into......

Pinchot State  Park has a campground. It's on 74 below Dillsburg. Maybe 20-25 minutes from Carlisle.

You can camp at Pine Grove Furnace. It's a few miles off the Newville exit of I81. Check the DCNR site for more info. It's about 20 minutes from Carlisle. Pine Grove Furnace has a lake nearby, hiking trails, biking trails, etc.

Pinchot is a good choice, but it's more like 45 minutes from Carlisle - it's about 20 minutes from where I live, Southeast of me, and Carlisle is to the West of me.

Jeff,  When I lived In North York, I could make it to Carlisle in 45 minutes. And we went 74 N , right past Pinchot Park.
