not realy a new member just slacker "updated with pics"
« on: June 19, 2008 - 07:48:15 PM »
I joined quite awhile back and have not worked on any of my cars since 2005. my home was wiped out and the family and i were homeless{ok we were living in one room togther for years but not homeless lol}
So gettting the home rebuilt was #1
I have a 73 dart 340 car yea i know almost  :useless:  and a basket case 70 challenger vert.
I am almost done for after fixing the home and will jst let the e body sit and sit for quite awhile now since i am to broke $$ wise to work on it. if the wife would let me it would be gone! She knows what $$ i have in parts and time spent on it so it stays.
Right now it is just sitting as a bare body that was redi striped and some sheet meteal was cut off so it could be changed. Oh well is there a general baord here like moparts.com has? I have been looking over the body shop and other sections here......

This post is useless without a Cajun recipe of some kind.......  ;)

Good to see you here Kevin.  :wave:

Penguin Gumbo
First off ya gotta make  a Roux
Add half cup oil heat up till nice and hot then add half cup flour
Move around with large spoon so it does not burn but darkens "this will take awhile"
Next step:
 A good cook  will be FIXIN THE STUFF TO GO IN THE GUMBO WHILE THIS IS BEING DONE.
But for first timers  Cut everything up before hand.
Take 4 whole penguins {or 2 chickens} cut up and washed well{penguins never take showers}
3-4 celery ribs, chopped
1 pound smoked andouille or smoked sausage, sliced 1/8-1/4" thick
1 large or 2 med  onion chopped med-fine
1 green bell pepper chopped
3-4 tea spoons garlic {minced}
3 tomatoes, peeled and chopped, or 1 one can rotell tomatoes {not rotella that’s oil}
1 can (approx. 15 ounces) tomato
1 package (10 or more ounces) frozen okra {cut up}
small bottle of file'  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fil%C3%A9_powder

 Feel free to add  of anything you have laying around Gumbo was a soup org. made out of left over
stuff you had from fixing other meals.
“So you have some shrimp left over from a shrimp,crabs,crawfish  boil, raw oysters  toss in some”

Ok so now we got us a nice dark roux and everything all cut up add the onions,garlic,celery and bell pepers and cook down some.This is also the time to add salt/pepper hot red pepper to tatse and "sprinke" some and file' to taste
Then add the Penguin,andouille or smoked sausage {and anything ya had laying around as stated above}
Add in 1 and a half gallons water or more depends on how much fixin's ya added
Add the tomatoes,okra
Bring tto a rollin boil then turn the heat to med boil for 10 min. Then way down to a simmer for about 1 hour.
Cook 3-4 cups white rice while ya waiting. You are going to spoon some hot white rice into the bowls and then add the soup over it when serving it.
