If you think it might be either the distributor or ecu then you might want to just bite the bullet and buy a Mopar Performance electronic ignition kit. That way you get an extra ecu and a new distributor. By your description though it all seems to be heat related to me. Your car at speed on the highway is getting plenty of air to keep the engine and other stuff cool, its when you slow down and are going light to light and idling at stoplights that you start to have problems.

Yeah, BB71, thats what i was thinking. At one point, I got the wiring seperately to change to Electronic. Then, I got this distributor. The only thing i dont have thats in the kit is the Orange box, which i hear there are troubles with...... So, we will see how this goes down. I may do that eventually anyway, Im gonna need the set-up for my Dart, so it wont be a loss.

The old Chrysler ECU's were great for their day back in the 70's, but I think you're better off getting something a bit more up to date like a MSD Digital-6. It also has a retard for starting (if you need it) and an adjustable rev limiter built in, as well as a retard for N20 if you ever use it. It will also work fine with any Chyrsler electronic distributor and a Blaster coil that fits in the stock holder. It's a POC to hook up and it fits nicely by where the horns mount, but you might have to take one of them off. I have one and I highly recommend it. Just my 2 cents. :2thumbs:

thanks, Im trying to stay somewhat stock looking though...... but ya never know.

Cranked it up again last night after installing a new pick-up coil @ .008" gap, tried a better "looking" reluctor and it wouldnt start, so i put the MP one back in. I timed it at 34* total and kept the vac plugged, then It ran about the same, tried 36* and it was a little worse with a pop here and there when i let off out of the exhaust. So, it seems it could be a voltage thing since it all started with electrical. I may check out some new plug wires, but im already running these taylor's  :money: maybe one of my krimps came a little loose.

Sorry, doesnt look like its coming to Carlisle guys  :sadwavey: But i will be there!!!  look for a white civic with a big a$$ rapid transit sticker on the back bumper!  :burnout:

Just an idea, check your grounds and continuity. You may be moving wires around that are bad or loose in these swaps thus changing the performance. An easy test is too tug on them while the engine is running.

As for plug wires I've never seen a bad one in all my years. I think mine are Taylors also from 1980 something.

Wally, a couple of thoughts.
Have a jumper wire handy the next time its acting up & jump from + battery to input side of ballast resistor, see if problem goes away.  Yes  the pickup coil can be bad breaking down with heat.
Why are you running a filter before the pump? This could be creating a restriction. I was even thinking before I read about the filter that you might have a fuel supply hose, before the pump, collapsing when it got hot from pump suction. (a long shot but I have heard of it)

Wade

Soooo did you ever try the jumper?!?!?   would have told you something  :poopoke:         :roflsmiley:

Glad your problem is solved
