It's a 727, but I forgot to mention that we made a custom bracket so as to get it even further away from the header  :cooldancing:

OK guys,

I finally had a chance to pull the shifter cable off today. My cable is red and is the 5 ft cable. It's in pretty bad shape i must say. After looking in my Summit catalog, they show two types for my B&M shifter. Performance series which is 600 lb pull weight for $39.95 and the Super Duty series with 1000 lb pull weight starting at $45.95. A 5ft cable will more than likely cost more than $45.95 because the super duty ones start at 3,4 then 5ft etc.,

Which one should i buy? Performance or Super Duty? I don't race my car but i do smoke the tires every chance i get. Explain the difference in the pull weight as it would apply to what i need. Will a super duty be less likely to heat up and give out? Since mine is the red cable, it may be the super duty? They show a red and a blue one in the catalog. Thanks

BMM-80605 is the performance and BMM-80833 is the Super Duty. That is your call. I can't see 6 bucks being a big difference. as long as you make sure you order the correct ends. The cables you are looking at are threaded on one end and a eyelet on the other. Is this correct for you app?

Hey coupe, i just took two pics of the cable and tried to post them but it says the file is too large. The smallest my camera will take is 2.5 megapixel so i don't know how to make each pic 300kb which is what the website wants. Anyway, the end that hooks up to the linkage on the transmission has a threaded area which has two nuts that tighten up to each side of a bracket that mounts to the transmission pan by two of the pan bolts. The other end has a eyelet that attaches to the shifter linkage on the console shifter.

That is the threaded end / eyelet end cable. That is the one you need. The pics in the Summit catalog are pretty clear. You should be able to compare the cable ends to the ones you have in your possession.

Oh and another thing. If you go to the home page and click on the tools section, you will find a link for an image re-sizer. This is a tool to take the size of your pics down to a fie you can upload. Therre are also freeware programs that do the same thing that you can download on the internet for free.

Coupe,

Just wanted to touch bases with you and let you know the shifter cable change went very well. Everything is working like before! I really enjoyed the car this past weekend. Thanks for everything.

Did you try to protect the cable from frying again somehow?

This is the reason I keep the stock shifter in my car. It's hard to melt a steel rod.

Bacardi,

When the cable came, inside the box was a instruction paper that said NOT to wrap the cable as this would increase inner heat. It then showed a illustration of how to make a metal heat shield with u-clamps over the section of the exhaust that was in the area of the cable. My car already had this heat shield so i did not do anything except install the cable. Obviously someone had already done the shield previously. Evidently someone tried a cheap fix on my cable as well as it had 4 small metal band clamps in the area of the cable that was melted and frayed to help hold it together.
