Junk Yard Hunting

Northern California still has some really good ones. Even some e bodies still to this day. I pulled my 72 Challenger (the one in my avatar) out of a yard in northern California back in 98.

I used to love going all the time hitting 1-4 yards a Saturday but now very rarely as most of the yards don`t have anything old anymore.There are still a couple I hit once in a while that have a few older cars mostly picked over but sometimes a new one comes in with some usefull parts on it.

There was one about 5 miles from me, but I never got to it.  They crushed everything last year & are building houses there now.   I went to one 2 years ago that had a '72 Challenger.  I stripped some parts from it, but before I got a chance to go back he had crushed almost everything he had, including the Chally.  He did keep some of the old stuff,  a Dart Sport, a 4 door Sattelite, a '68 Coronet RT, and probably 6 0r 7 Javelins & AMXs.

Yup up in the back woods. The good ones up there are the guys with really bad teeth that speak bad english.

Stopped by my friends place in PA last week just to look around , Havent been there in about a year and much to my surprise everything was gone    I was sad, because they had some stuff that i wanted,    I guess the scrap prices are still kind of high

I used to go pretty often to see what I could find. Now I wish I had picked up a lot more when I was there.  I have a good friend that his family still has a junk yard.  They would call me when they got something I would be interested in.  Not contacted them lately to see what they have I also need to contact another friend of mine about parts and cars.  They both know I love e-bodies and keep an eye out for me.  Now that I am out of country it will be awhile before I get to go again.  Time is going by fast and I am looking forward to getting my car done.

there are enough yards in my country ,but all you will find there is maybe an old rotten chevy and loads and loads of asian and european cars.  I think there are 1 or 2 yards specialized in us- vehicles, but you won`t find much before 1980 stuff there...

Nothing... there was nothing there.  Well basically nothing.  Bruno's Junkyard in Chicago which had a real 69 Charger R/T, darts, dusters, chargers, GTX, impala's, mustang, etc... one of the last great yards in the area, crushed 99.9% of everything and is closed up.

So very sad, the old man just couldn't keep it up anymore.  So he crushed everything.

Yes that is very sad.  I know a lot of the junk yards have shut up and crushed most of the cars that we would love to have for sure.  I wish it was possible to gather the rest before they get crushed.  Gordon

I went to the Pull-A-Part today, and to my surprise, I found 2 '73 furys, a '77 aspen, a '74 duster, a '76 scamp, a '77 volare, and a '73 dodge p/u.  They were pretty much stripped, but I was just surprised to see these cars all at once because this place crushes cars every few months.  I did get a brand new space saver wheel/tire from a Jeep that fits on our older cars.

That place is sweet, but I bet they are not cheap.

prices for the "project" cars they have in inventory are pretty reasonable (at least when I compare to craigslist in my area).
