Headers dragging!

Why are my headers hanging so low? What brand are these? I am beating the    out of them?

Hooker Competition I think, I had them, with the steering link going trough them. Get rid of them, I got TTI now.

I am almost 100% sure those are Hedmen Hedders.  I have them on my car and you have to keep a look out for anything sticking up in your path.  They are hanging low becuase they are a cheap design and go under the steering linkage to avoid hitting anything near the engine. 

FYI: You will either have to cut them out or disconnect part of your steering linkage when you remove them.

typical small block headers , why theey go under the steering I will never know ,
 TTI , Dougs, & 1 style  hooker stay above the steering

Sounds like they are as hard to install as big block headers.

I've changed headers 3-4 times since i've had my car, takes about an hour. lol.

But i'd go with dougs headers, it sounds like they are the best out of the bunch with price included. I really havent smacked my summit headers up much, only time really was with a HUGE dip in the road.

I have Hooker Super Comp's #5115 and are 25 years old.
Just had them recoated this year.
No complains in my book, FIT GREAT..
Talk about getting your money's worth....

What did it cost you to have them re-coated?

They where $275 plus $34 shipping.
I look at it this way , new coated headers are $667.00.
Mine where in really good shape for the age, except the original coating was peeling off down by both collectors, so it was worth it to have mine re-coated, half the price of new.

That's a great price for re-coating.  I'll guess you didn't use Jet-Hot, as they are a tad more, but they do a good job.

If I had it to do over again I'd get Doug's headers.The TTI's collector tubes point slightly down for some reason. They could have been better there IMO. There is alot of room otherwise. Thick flanges.I went with the matte finish.Get's dirty easier.   I had to modify the skattershield a tad. No big deal. Install was incredible with the new rack and pinion.

I put Thorleys from Summit on my 440.  Fit was great.  No issues.  Love them.

Yes, I did use Jet-Hot , but next time I will go to Nitro Plate in TN..
Let's leave it at that.
