Holleys do`nt need any more manitenance than an Eddy and are more tunable, just need to set it up for your engine combo and you`ll be good.

x100

eddy carbs suck     :2cents:

I don't think there are mixture screws on the rear of mine either.

Tom

Tom,

He has a Street Avenger, so it has the 4-corner idle mixture screws(I think). If one is missing... I can see this being a problem.   :grinyes:

absolutely. they should all be square also,,,,,,,,,,  meaning turing them all in until they stop and back each one out 1 1/2 turns..... (square)

when tuning the Dominator on my car what a difference a 1/2 turn makes...........

Just to double check myself, I tried to find a nice pic of a Holley Street Avenger online.  :banghead:

So... If it has idle mixture screws on all 4 corners, then yes.. you will have 4 screws to adjust, and they should be equal as StRoKer said. IF this carb only has 2 idle mixture screws, they will be on each side of the primary metering block. The secondary metering block will have holes that aren't threaded.

  Mike

P.S.- This is a carb I sold with 4-corner idle mixture screws. This is the passenger's side. Notice the small screws on the lower part of each metering block.

possibly it is rich at Idle because of the cam not the carb , but restricting the idle bleeds will likely help

FYI, I called Holley to order a replacement screw and was told that there is no mixture screw on the rear bowl, that is was just a dummy hole.  I told him that this "dummy" thought his screw fell out.

What is the timing at?

I used a vacuum guage and got mine to idle clean and that helps a bunch.  Go for highest vacuum at idle with the idle mixture screws.  You may need more intial timing?

It doesn't take much of a turn to change the idle mixture.  Like was previously stated turn the screws in till they "lightly seat" and then turn them out 1.5 turns, start there.  Try to fing th best lean idle.  This is by turning in "leaner" out "richer"  Watch the vacuum guage for more or less vacum while doing so.  You have to make the same adjustments on both sides.  You may also have to lower your curb idle screw and repeat as necessary until no more vacuum can be realized.

I set the mixture screws 1.5 turns out from seated and it seems to run OK.  I'll fine-tune it with a vacuum gauage.  I also ordered the "yellow" secondary spring (which is supposed to be lighter so the secondaries come in quicker) from Holley.  Haven't checked the timing yet, that's also on the list.  Where do you guys with 360s set the timing (what setting)?  And what idle speed do you use?

I have another question, too...You've probably noticed that I am not an expert at working on cars.  I have a basic knowledge and some skills, but I need a lot of help, so I really appreciate all the expertise that is available here.

Anyway, I'm running two breathers off my valve covers and I've noticed a very slight trickle of oil around them.  Would I be better off running a PCV valve?  If so, it's just a matter of getting a PCV grommet and PCV valve and a section of hose connected to the PCV fitting at the front of the Holley, right?  I could then put the oil filler cap on the other side, too, right, or do I need a breather?

Thanks,
MJS73

a pcv valve will help keep the pressure down inside the engine & stop the leak around the breathers , , you do neen the valve on one side & the breather on the opposite side
you should have ordered the whole set of springs for the secondary , go as light as you can without creating a bog as the secondary opens
generally I set timing around 16* at idle & 36-38* at 2500+ RPM , the higher RPM setting is more important

Is there a standard/preferred idle speed?

depends more on the given engine combo generally around 800 is what I shoot for but long duration cams usually require more RPM depending how good you are at tuning , with some trick mods to a 6 pack I got a 440 with the Mopar 590 lift 312 duratin cam to idle at 800 RPM which is unheard of for that cam

The PVC hose connects to the back of a Holley.  :grinyes:
