Need some 4 speed help

I have a 70 Challenger with an 833 that someone had rigged the wrong kind of shifter for it. Does anybody have pics of the linkages so I can put the new ones in the right position??? Also--what are the positions of the shift tabs for the trans to be in neutral to make the adjustments? Any help would be most appreciated....

Looks good--but The pictures of the 70 linkages that Brewers has shows a long rod with a right angle bend in it. Is the 73 that you posted that much different?

The manual covers all car lines & in some instances they do not specify which model, so the Brewers pic. is probably accurate while these are more generic. Looked in the manual & I do see a drawing similar to the top one with the L shaped rod for th J carline.

I got the 1-2 & 3-4  linkages under the seat of my truck right now. I just picked them up from a member that was storeing some stuff for me. Don't have a camera tho.  Brewers will have the correct ones you need. BEA has good pictures of there's in the adds the post. If you were near me, I'd toss these in your seat for you. The reverse rod has a heck of a bend in it as the other 2 have very noticeable bends in then also. They have to go through the crossmember support to work, so the factory bends are nec.

Here are some photos I took at the Mopar Nats to identify 4-speed linkage.  For instance, you can see the difference between a big block and small block clutch linkage torque shaft.

Thanks guys.....I think I need to buy a set of rods also after looking at the detailed pics. Mine don't look like those which is why they won't line up with the right shifter installed.

 That is some great information in those photos Changin Gears. The 70-72 e-body linkage rods look correct to me.

 The two holes in the operating levers, are they for shortening the shift throw? I don't think mine has both.

I always use the inner holes for the shorter throw.

Thanks for the info...now I will order rods from Brewers and hopefully put them in next weekend if they get here in time.

The rod with the hook that goes under the tranny crossmember is the reverse rod.  There are 2 different rods depending on the year.

 Click the trans plate levers on 1-2 then 3-4  for and aft. There will be a "neutral" detent in between. Rotating the drive shaft a bit will help free the engagement.

 Reverse has only two detents. Engaged or neutral. You will hear it and know which. Then the linkage can be set according to the best fit to the trans.
