Epoxy Primer
« on: June 29, 2008 - 12:07:10 AM »
First time painter with a million questions. Picked up an epoxy primer OMNI AU  PPG brand from the paint store and two guys there gave me two different cure times. First guy said 1hr and second guy said between 24-36hrs before putting down the base coat. Can someone help me here, and is sanding required even though I am looking for a 'textured' finish?

This is for the MP17x series primer (MP170, MP171, MP172)  It depends on the number of coats and the temperature.  P-sheet says 1 coat @ 70 F is 15 minutes dry time, 2 coats @ 70F is 30 minutes.   Colder temps will increase dry time, hotter temps decrease.  I do the touch test - wait the specified amount of time and then touch the paint in a hidden area.  If it's sticky, wait another 10 minutes.

You've got 72 hours @ ideal temps to get a top coat on top of the epoxy primer before you have to scuff it and re-shoot.

I agree And if it hot you lose time to top coat before it needs to be scuffed. Same goes for the DP products it says 7 days but place locay said 3-4 in the heat we live in
