70 Dash Cap

I am thinking about putting a dash cap on my 70 Challenger dash w/AC because I dont have the $$$ to spend on a new pad. If anyone has put a cap on their e-body pad I would like to see some pictures of what it looks like. I was thinking of using this cap because its the only one I have found with the correct 1970 line on the pad.

I didn't want to spend all that money either.  I am satisified with the cap.......

I wouldn't worry about the line too much, the cap looks good from outside the car but will not fool anybody. it is a price worthy alternative to a new dash for sure. My cap lasted about 2 years in the Texas heat before it warped too bad and I ended up putting in a new dash.

I have a cap in mine, I'm happy with it for now.  Someday I will have the extra cash and time to do a dash.  Maybe the repros will get better in the meantime.

mine's had it in since I bought it 1 & 1/2 year ago and I'm not sure how long the other owner had it in before I bought the car.  It's in great shape and even with the FL heat it's stayed straight all this time.

Definately a good alternative to help save $$$ instead of a new dash.

The first 2 years I had my car, there was a cap on it. I wasn't crazy about the hard plastic feel of it, but whoever installed it, didn't do that great of a job either. It was kind of wavy in the center area around the speaker. In all honesty, if it was installed better, or not warped, I could have lived with it. I did buy an after-market pad from Ultimate Rides. No complaints there. I understand the money issue though...it took me quite a while to make that decision.

Did you end up buying that dash cap and installing it?  How did it go? 

I've used them before with great success, how did this one turn out?

I agree with the above statements.  I've had my cap on for about 3-4yrs.  Looks pretty good, but it is sorta wavy around the speaker area.  I don't think I spent enough time prepping it.  You have to make absolutely sure the surface below is completely smooth and it fits snug before glueing it down.

I don't know if I am going to do it or not, I cleaned up my pad and its not that bad besides the 3 cracks, so I might just clean it and use it the way it is until I have the money to buy a new pad.

  My '70 Challenger had a cap fitted before I bought it, I didn't know it was a cap until I touched it. I've had the car in Australia 1 1/2 years now and I know that it was on for at least 1 year before that. Still looks great, when I do a complete resto in the future I may use a new dash pad.
