Help! intake carnage

I was planning on plugging up the heat transfer holes in my 73 340 intake. It wants to boil the fuel in the carb since its gotten hot in the southeast. I thought there were two holes in the bottom of these intakes? I removed the plug on the rt side and noticed that there is no plug on the left. Is there only one hole in this intake? Also, can you cut the intake where the carb mounts to match the Edelbrock rpm w/o causing problems? thanks

My 73 original intake has TWO plugs... one in high plane side, and one in low plane side... blocking the heat passage will kill choke operation... not that you'd need it in warm climate. If the 'unplugged' hole on the low plane side (driver's side) actually leaks exhaust into the intake, no wonder the fuel boils... but every other cylinder should show different color on plugs, as the hot exhaust gas would vaporize fuel and cause 'lean' mixture to enter cylinders on those runners..

Not know if intake can be reworked like Eddy...

  Had one on my 360 powered Dodge Phoneix, I just plugged both holes, smoothed down the bolt heads so that they blended better and put a blank gasket at the head surface so no exhaust gasses crossed over, I also removed the valve in the exhaust manifold. The motor would start first time even on very cold mornings but wouldn't run when put into drive until motor warmed up, small price to pay for a colder unpolluted intake mixture.

Never seen this done before..... Im running a 70 intake.... someone also said "please tell me you blocked the heat transfers" on the abody site and i had no idea what the H3LL that was....

The heat transfer is the port when looking at a cylinder head on the intake side, the small little port in the middle all on its own in the middle of the head between the intakes ports that is colored black from exhaust because this port is connected to one of the exhaust valves on one side on each head. Do you know where i am talking about ?

Its ringing a bell, but are you saying that there are 4 ports on each side in the intake? are there crossovers on 69-70 intakes?

5 ports on each side on an iron head two intakes together then a space and a little port for heat cross over then a space then the other two intake ports together.  This is standard on all small block iron Mopar heads except some W2 race heads

Crap, so no i have to block that off? how many are in there, can i do it with the intake on the motor?

Hey Wally................ Chill brother   You may not have that problem with yours, it was an emisions thing.  Best bet is to pull your carb and look down on the floor of the intake, take a picture and post back here if you are uncertain old mate

The port on the low side had no threads. Makes me think that only one side has to be plugged. Anyone have a pic of one with the plugs on both sides?

  Ok i will take a chill pill.....  and get back to ya. I'm not gonna lie, it wont be soon but i will indeed check. Maybe once i get my car running right i will be motivated.

  If you remove or wire the exhaust valve in the exhaust manifold open then there will be very little exhaust crossing over through the inlet manifold.
