DON'T have a happy FOURTH OF JULY....
« on: July 03, 2008 - 01:51:17 PM »
Hey all,

I listen to a radio program called "John Boy & Billy" in the mornings here in Ohio - I used to work as an "in-line producer" for their program when I lived in GA.

They have a commentator named Robert D. Raiford who tells lots of stories, reads articles, and is a general "curmudgeon," chiming into the program twice per hour.

The other day, Raiford read a letter from from a female listener who commented on the use of the term "4th of July" to denote the upcoming holiday.  She said, "People don't celebrate December 25th or November 27th.  They celebrate Christmas and Thanksgiving Day."

July 4th is not "4th of July" - it's our Independence Day - a day that we should all take pride in our citizenship as Americans, and should especially remember those who have served our country, protecting its freedom and our independence.

And so I say THANK YOU to the men and women - including my mother, father, brother, and soon, my youngest sister - for their service in the United States Navy.  I say thank you to The Cuda Guy, and millions of other men and women who will be celebrating the indepence that they themselves preserve.  My heart goes out to those who cannot be with their family on Holidays such as this.

July 4th is just another day.  But Independence Day is far more significant, and should be remembered always.

:wavingflag:    HAPPY    INDEPENDANCE     DAY!!!     :wavingflag:

(That took forever...)

it's our Independence Day
Let us never forget it, and how brave our founding fathers were.

I totally agree with you.  Never really thought about it because in my mind '4th of July' = Independance Day.  I will be refering to this day as the later from now on.

By the way 'Cinco de Mayo' (Spanish for 5th of May) is a regional holiday in Mexico, not Mexico's independance day.

It's a shame politics is practically devoid of men (and women) like that these days.
