Comin' home soon.
« on: July 05, 2008 - 05:50:59 AM »
Well, it's been awhile since I've had time to post but I guess I'll have a little more time in round about a month or so. My last deployment with this Battalion is coming to an end and I will be back in Mississippi to catch some of that wonderful mid-August Mississippi weather. It is a bit hotter here but not nearly as humid. I'll still trade it though.

In the past when I went on deployments it was money saving time. Without having anywhere to spend your money it is pretty easy. This deployment however was a little different. We paid for the wife to have an operation, we paid the car off, paid some other bills, and set back about 10K for a down payment on a home.
We are getting out of the renting and decided buying a house is a little more important than putting money in the 'cuda. I hate to admit but it really is. We are excited about buying especially since I got new orders to a base that is only about 20 minutes away from the base I am stationed at now.
I do have a little bit of money to put into the 'cuda. Enough to help me keep going on it so it doesn't go completely stale. If we can find a place with a garage I will start doing the the (almost) free stuff more like sanding and wire-wheeling the road grime off the bottom. Arghhh!

Most of all I am excited to get back to my little Emma. She'll be 3 in October so I'll be home just in time. Last year when I came home she cried when I got off the plane but we have been talking on the phone alot this time. I think she'll be more excited. A buddy of mine from back home in Oklahoma has a boy who just grew out of his 50cc four wheeler. Guess what Emma's getting for her birthday! (I'll be getting her a Power Wheel first then transition her to the 50 of course!)

Anyone coming down to Cruisin'the Coast? http://www.cruisinthecoast.com/About.htm

Well thats wonderful news. I have been wondering when you would be coming home. Emma will love her new toys and your toy will get done, all in good time.  Just a few more days , hang in there and stay safe.

Thanks folks. I have had a pretty good deployment. Working with who I am this time around has been a real pleasure. I have met members of the Canadian Forces, some Kiwi's, Aussie's, and Brit's. I tell you what, those Brit's are quite the characters!
Oh, lil' Em was named after her Great Great Grandmother. My grandmother was just delighted that we used the name. And that remindes me, this Independance Day I was thinking about America and all she has gone through in her short lifespan. I also thought about my Grandma and how she is one person that totally represents why I signed up for another enlistment a few years back (first one was because I needed the heck outta town!)
She has seen World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Grenada, Panama, The Dust Bowl, The Great Depression, son killed by a drunk driver, a son's suicide, two husband's die, bore 13 children, I don't know how many grankids and great grandkids she has, the prevelance of the automobile, indutrial air travel, interstates, advances in medicine, two knee replacements, two heart surgeries, .............
She sent 1 son to Korea, 5 sons to Vietnam, 1 son to Desert Storm, and 5 grandson's to the GWOT.
She has seen 89 Independance Days!

Somebody should do a story on her!
