Well, I think I'm FINALLY on the right track.  I got a friend whos got a friend and was in the right place at the right time. Yesterday after the Belvidere show were back at my buddies shop. Anyway I described  my problem as best I could. Before you know it I'm pulling NIKKI"S carb off out in the street. As it happens I had NO secondary idle whatsoever. Once the rears were cracked open I could bring the primary idle down. The response with the for corner mix screws was instantainious!!!!!!! The vacccum gauge responded to turns right away. Although I still need to do some fine tuning I believe I'm now going the right direction. I have found power in this car I've NEVER had before!!

Now understand I was NOT familiar with this setup, it's a far cry from the qudadrabog on my Pontiac. As I've said a lilltle knowlege is dangerous and I had little! I have never messed with the secondary idle EVER!! Which means when I got her she was this way.  I bought this car with a carb that was not properly set up to begin with!!! Its no wonder I couldn't get the vac gauge to repond like it does on my Pont.

I'm still gonna play/tweak a little now that I'm going in what I feel is the right direction. And now allot of YOUR SUGGESTIONS are making sense to me!

I never thought this post would turn into a novel, my humble apolgies. And sincere thanks for everyone's help.

Never underestimate the abilty of a former owner to screw things up. Want an example?

When I bought my Challenger on the way home I noticed it had a vibration above 60mph.  Thinking I would remove the driveshaft and turn it 180* to try to eliminate the problem I discovered the previous owner had never installed the clips on the bearing cups that position the U-joint in the yoke. I took the clips off a new joint I had and bolted it back in and the vibration disappeared. I was glad it was such an easy fix, but I also wondered what else he might have forgot about..... ???
