as stated it would be much easier if I was there to tune it
whatr did she not like with the advance up ? , probably needed more adjustment to compensate for the increased timing which it seems she did like as the idle speed increased
I would try to tune the problem out first before spending more $$ on a different carb
start with the basics , check float levels , do you know what the engine vacuum is at idle in gear ?

Chryco dont know how I missed this one. SORRY  :faint: Float levels good added those see-thru's last year. I think it was $7 well spent! I haven't looked at vacum in gear but I CAN find out! I do know its not rock steady in "park". Seems the smooothest I get is when the 4 corners DONT MATCH... but my pics at the beginng show what that was doing. Granted this car has a lopey idle not like the small blocks I've owned ,  but seems to me it could be allot better. As I've said before I don't know setups. Or maybe I'm just not explaining things correctly. Maybe there needs to be a book -HEMI' for dummies.  :icon16: But this is my first HEMI too and it seems like some things just don't apply to this mill. I gladly pay you to come over and play (and teach me!! ) But I'm learnin' as I go... Now if you wanna talk "pusher fans" gotcha covered!  :2thumbs:  :roflsmiley:  :roflsmiley:  :roflsmiley:  :roflsmiley:

if it runs better with the 4 idles screws set differently do it that ios why they are there to get the mix more even at each corner so if one corner needs more or less adjust it that way
find the vacuum in gear , if it is low you may need a lower rated power valve to clean up the idle
send a ticket , I will show up

But with the 4 screws set diff I was running too lean(?)  As for the poewer valve I did change that last year (its the thing in the front block of the carb correct?) At the time at idle my exhaust really had a raw gas smell. No lean probs there!! So I went to the local speed shop (bowtie boys) told him of my prob and he gave me the one I installed. Have no idea what the rating was tho..  :banghead:

I presume you are turning those mixture screws very slowly while giving the motor plenty of time to react? They could indeed all be set differently with a dual plane intake with a seperator dam in the manifold isolating the sides. Anyone who can set all 4 screws exactly the same and have a good idle has a better carb than I do.

Ok here's my vac at hot idle in drive - Good thing for shaker hood.  Second pic is hot idle in park just for reference. I did not play with timing or carb tonite. I can get a little better vac bringing up the timing, but nowhere near where it should be. Seems like I had it good once long ago, but cant remember if power valve was changed before or after.

Must add needle is not rock steadyeither........  :pullinghair:

10" isn't terrible. I don't know what it should be on a Hemi. Are you positive the Intake isn't leaking at the head surface? It will suck oil into the Intake ports too if it is. Does it seem to use alot of oil, but isn't leaking anywhere?

Actually, I have sprayed around the intake and the carb base (twice). It didn't seem to make any difference.... No change in idle. But oil has been an issue. It did have a front seal leak, but thats been fixed. And she don't sing the blues, if you get my drift.
I could swear I got about 17 inches vac back when I first got her. As you've said "I don't know what it should be"

It could be leaking and sucking oil from the lifter valley underneath. I don't know if that's a problem on Hemi's but I've seen it happen on Big blocks and small blocks both. You could try tightening all the intake bolts. If you pull the Intake it'll be obvious because you'll find oil in the head ports. It's not hard to do cause you don't even have to remove the distributor on Mopes and there's no water passages in the Intake like brand "C".

Whew, first my plugs are way to lean now it seems like I'm 100 miles away from where I started.   :banghead:  Nuts hey???

Chryco, your thoughts on oil/intake leak  that 71 416 is refering to?  :dunno:

I won't have any more time to work on her this week. I'm too behind on honeydo projects at the house. I will try doing the tape on the balancer thing. I will also check the intake bolts for tite. And i'll let you guys know where it leads next
week. But if you've got any other ideas in the meantime, please let me know and THANKS for your help.  :worshippy

If I had your motor the first thing I'd do is a compression test.

cylinder 6 is the darkest plug but it still looks dry to me , oil leaks under the intake are actually more common than you might think but I don`t think It would be the first thing I would try

I had to make a run "kinda" past my house today. So of course I had to sneek into the garage and do something!
I got a piece of blue tape on my orange balancer... took 6 try's tho (.018cents!!!)  :roflsmiley:

Then for grins I checked my intake bolts. Left bank (drivers side) I actually got between a half and 3/4's of a turn out of them.  :22yikes: Right side just a hair or 2.

No time for anything else  - _ I was "at work" you know.  :roflsmiley:

Two less things to do when I get back out there after this weekend!  :grinyes:
