Now a question for you electric guru's -PUSHER PICS!-
« on: July 06, 2008 - 09:53:59 AM »
After I reset my timing today, I'm gonna start playing with a "pusher" fan. Who can tell me the best place to tap into a switched hot.  :dunno: I will be running a curcuit breaker. I also got a relay so I guess I'm looking for a "safe" place to tap. I don't want this to look like a cobble job so  I got a relay kit from Jegs.  THANKS.  :feedback:

On my '73s fuse block the bottom two openings are male spade terminals, on the right/ passenger side is switched. I also found an extra hole in the firewall to run a wire just to the left/drivers side of the brake booster.

Pusher fans can actually cause problems themselves, they can become restrictive. So make sure you get something large enough. Like bullitt said there should be switched blade on the fuse block to be an input to the relay.

if you are putting the relay in the engine bay and taking power for the fans off the alt. stud- then take the turn on voltage for the relay off the dark blue wire that is also off the alt.- this is a ing. power wire and the relay draws very little power off this connection!

I agree the Dk Blue wire is the best under hood circuit to use for the low power switched circuit , the heavy wire can go to the rear of the Alt or the large stud on the starter relay

Bullit this is pretty much what I did. I guess I was just lazy so I asked before aggravating the arthrits by contorting under the dash.  :2thumbs:

Did that too. At least something went good today.  :roflsmiley:  :roflsmiley:  :roflsmiley:

Mike I gotta agree, some of them look more restrictive than help full!  :grinyes:

Ok guys , something went GOOD TODAY so I'll share all this incase someone's thinkin about doing it. I tapped the switched HOT off the fuse block (yellow wire) (thanks bullitt)and cheated buy running through the body plug next to the master cyl. I noticed when I was under the dash it had a pin hole in it awyway! So...

Then I ran the constant hot off the soleniod (red wire)(thanks Chryco) to a circuit breaker and a BIGS custom made bracket. I'm kinda wierd (you already know that) I dont like drilling any more holes than Walter put there, so I make brackets to fit!

That runs to a relay, which runs to a thermostat (that has a probe in the rad). Goody I used a Perma Cool fan (minimal air restriction. Padded it with rubber in a few spots so othing gets worn through by vibration.

FYI - Got it all from Jegs. I could got allot of it out of the yard but I was lazy!

I did have the rubber on hand and did need to run for one extra connector and the small strip to make the bracket. But it works great and I can adjust the thermostat at any time as weather dictates. Even keep it off!

Now back to my tuning problem...............

Forgot to add.. the fan was rated at only 8.2 amps as I recall, some I looked at were over 20!

Looks like a good clean install! My Taurus fan I installed in my truck is running off a 30amp low speed fuse, and 40amp high speed fuse, that sucker p-u-l-l-s :D

Looks good!
