I saw the remake the first(and only) time I went to Carlisle (1996).  The movie was shown on a huge screen.  This was the first time I had ever heard of Vanishing Point, and I really enjoyed it.  I later watched the original and was disappointed with the lack of a plot, but it still had some great racing scenes.

Very true what you said jacksboys but to me the original Vanishinig point is sorta like automotive porn:  No plot but lots of good action to watch!   :smilielol:  :roflsmiley:  :scared:

:smilielol: :smilielol: :smilielol: The "Jesus Freaks" LMAO.....funny stuff.

A part in the remake I can't figure out is when Kowalski is at that army surplus store and he's talking to that GI, and the guy behind the counter says something like: "I think Marines are sissies" can't remember at present then Kowalski says something but I've never understood what the hell he mumbles. Something like: "I think GIs lick" ?? I have always thought: "Lick" what kind of a come back is saying someone "Licks" lol If that is indeed what he is saying.....anyone know......lol Yes, yes, I know, I need to get out more.............

Well...not so much, no.

Depends on what you're looking for, I guess. My brother and I sat down to watch Gladiator a while back. We watched the opening, which is a long fight/battle scene, and when that was over he started fast-forwarding; his explanation was "They're just talking here."

On the other hand, I'm a writer with a Master's in English. I appreciate good characterization and an intriguing plot along with the high performance. I enjoy Shakespeare and Ernest Hemingway. I wanted to know what the characters were "just talking" about in Gladiator. And from that point of view the new VP was just so godawfully written, directed and acted that I couldn't finish it.

If you just want to pop some popcorn and watch the Challenger and the Charger then the new version is fine. If you want to be able to enjoy the parts of the movie where there aren't car chases, stick to the original.

When he fast forwarded the movie you probably missed the gaffer or boom operator caught in the final cut wearing blue jeans lol. Weird to see to say the least.

Carl,

I know what you are saying.   :grinyes: Keep in mind that this was a made for TV movie. I think "lick" was substituted for some other word.  :naughty:   I think the word Kowalski wanted to say was something else... like what a vacuum cleaner does.  :grinyes:  I think at that point, the GI respected him. That was my take of it anyway.   :dunno:

Thanks Mike, yup, it was a stand up and get respect comment no doubt, just wasn't sure if I was hearing properly. " I think GIs Lick" lol ??? That's telling him Kowalski! :grinno: I thinking they only made 1 version, no tits, no swearing and lots of corn, Fox remake of course so it's as fake as they come. Surely something like: "I think GIs suck balls" would have been more respectable lol........

Hey, I'm I reading this correctly? (see link, look at bottom for remake and references) is there suppose to be a third Vanishing Point?  I saw this a while back, but havn't heard anything lately.  The director is some guy named Richard Kelly?  Let me know what you think.

the 2nd version was a "made for tv" movie. i watched it on fox and recorded it.floyd garret had the closeup car in the museum in sieverville, tenn. it still had the dirt on it. sadly they killed a '72-'74 chally in the end.i personaly liked it but i enjoy anything starring a mopar ....and by the way "it takes a mopar to catch a mopar" :burnout:

Is this the Museum? I've got 3 more photos of this place and tonnes/hundreds of VP images.

If anyone can write and direct a new VP movie and do it right it's Richard Kelly.  He spends years on each project he does and always explores the characters and meanings in his movies at the full extent.   Sort of the opposite of Quentin Tarantino.

Richard Kelly is the creator of Donnie Darko for example

Here is his IMDB profile

And Southland Tales, a great movie.

I agree with this completely.

Sort of the opposite of Quentin Tarantino.

Tarantino's real strength lies in dialog. He does it very well, but he has a tendency to get so involved in it that he lets it get in the way of telling a story.

Carl,

Not to steal the thread, I know awhile back you were talking about setting up a Vanishing Point website.  Did anything of come of that?  I know there was one several years ago setup by some guy that owned a replica Vanishing Point, but it's been inactive for several years now.  I still a couple of old clips from that site.

Thanks,

Scott
