I got to thinking about this and wonder how a u-joint survives with needle bearing taking the torque of the engine mutipled by the trans for 100k miles.

i have spicer u joints with needle bearings....  :working:

Interesting topic for discussion....lots of varied opinions.

From my experience the Crane Gold rockers are fine with flat tappet cams and spring pressures under 400lbs....they will last for 50K miles.

The non rollerized fulcrum rockers don't fare so well with roller cam spring pressures....that means Comp/Crane/Indy etc.....so it really depends on the application and cam profile being used. Even the Comp stainless rockers that are bronze bushed (afterwards....they don't come that way stock) won't hold up to roller cam pressures and Comp doesn't recommend them for spring pressures exceeding 400 lbs.

I have yet to see a Harland sharp fail that was getting enough oil to the shaft....and some of those have years of abuse on street/strip builds. T&D is next up on the food chain in terms of rocker arm quality. Jesel should be considered a race only piece, inmo.

So, in a nutshell it boils down to picking the right part for the right application...nothing more.

CP ; are those B1BS heads ported ? As delivered they don't flow as well as a stock E-head but with a good CNC job and MW intake port window they will move a lot of air.

Here are the intake flow numbers off a friends bench...stock B1Bs as delivered from Koffels (standard port window)

66.3  (.100)
121.7 (.200)
167.1 (.300)
212.9 (.400)
254.5 (.500)
270.5 (.550)
284.9 (.600)
293.7 (.650)
293.7 (.700)

And for Comparison's sake....MY 84cc RPM heads with stage 1 mild port off the same bench :

71.6 (.100)
148.2 (.200)
212.2 (.300)
257.9 (.400)
283.6 (.500)
291.9 (.550)
295.7 (.600)
297.3 (.650)
300.9 (.700)

Comparing intake flow between these two castings it's obvious the mildly ported e-heads are far superior in terms of HP potential. Inmo that B1Bs head is not a 700 hp casting and for that matter neither is my RPM head. To make that kind of power it's gonna need a max wedge port window and ~350 cfm at max valve lift.  :2cents:

I run solid rockwell U joints in my race car.  No bearings, no grease holes. They are expensive but work on hi tq systems

So if rollers rockers are so bad then i guess roller lifters are out of the question. I think i see some pretty complicated little parts in those suckers.

As long as the roller lifters are not aluminum they should be okay  :poopoke:

CP - which ones are you going to go with?

pentastar - what originals? roller rockers? roller lifters? not sure what you mean  :dunno:
70 Cuda, 7.0L Gen-III Hemi, Viper T56 w/9310 gearset, 3.91's, Megasquirt MS3x v3.57, Innovate wideband, Firm Feel upper arms, torsion bars, springs and strut rods, QA1 DA shocks. I did everything on this car except the fancy paint stuff and I drive it...and I can't seem to stop messing with it....
