360 markings

Hi Guys,

I just bought a disassembled 1978 360 and I found some markings on the underside of the block where the oilpan mounts to. At each cilinder the letter "S" in stamped into the block. Does anyone know what it means?
I also got some heads with it, and I would like to confirm that they are genuine TA heads, as the seller told me.
They are the 915 J-heads, but they also have a "U" cast onto the underside of an intake runner. They look to be original 2.02 intake and 1.60 exhaust valves. are these TA or just standard 360 heads?

Are the push rod holes elongated or just round. What is the date code on the heads. Pics help

the pushrod holes is relocated in the T/A heads other than that the markings are the same as std 340 heads , can you take a pic of the pushrod hole beside the intake port

Those heads are worthless without the T/A valvegear. You need offset Intake rockers to use them. and the offset is different than it is for W-2's......

The S is the size of piston to fit in the hole on the assy line
 odds are the heads you have are not T/A heads but a picture will clear it up

Yep, those are T/A heads! They are some great heads to port. I did a set of them and they flowed great. Without porting they are no better than any stock 340 2.02 valved head.

I don't know what I will do with them because it's pretty expensive here to have them ported and nobody really knows how to do it properly around here. + I've also got a set of finished 915 heads with the big valves coming, so I think I'll use those, and maybe sell these ones.

I had a set that flowed 30% better than a stock W/2 head up to .500 lift after I ported them.  I have some pics of them somewhere when I can find them...
