Got New Shifter
« on: July 11, 2008 - 12:23:44 PM »
I've got a little job for the weekend now as I received my new Brewer's E body shifter mechanism.  It looks pretty good.  I think they take a new B body Hurst shifter and change out the levers to make it an E body mechanism. This should cure my shifter rattle issues.

I know hurst rebuilds them for about $125, let me know how that works out.  I have a rattle also, but it is from the top plate that shows the gear pattern.

That would probably be an easier and cheaper fix.  I didn't want to be without my shifter for weeks and by the time I ship down there and back I doubt the cost savings would be significant.  I could have shipped my shifter to Brewers on exchange and saved $100 but then again the shipping costs would of narrowed the savings.  I'm impatient too.  :)
I do have a decent Chebby Hurst shifter that I might rob to fix the old one.  Perhaps it will be a rainy day job.

My shifter used to rattle on the highway too. It was due to a driveshaft that was a little out of balance.  The handle rattled a little from looseness but new wooden grips from Gunslinger tightened that up.

Some of those aftermarket shifters, like the Competition Plus, need the special adapter bushings to take up the bigger shifter lever hole when installing the stock e-body linkage.  Get them from Brewers if you need them.

The shifter levers are very tight compared to the old one.
