Hello from SC
« on: July 12, 2008 - 09:48:29 AM »

Imagine a guy who grew up on Firebirds and Mustangs jumping into the Mopar arena  - yep - that's me! I picked up a 73 Challenger (318cid/727 tranny nuttin special...yet) back in January and have jumped in feet first!

I'll have my web page online soon for all interested in keeping watch of the progress and costs (just hope the wife doesn't see what I've spent!). I'll have lot's of questions for you guys along the way since this is my first Mopar.

Speaking of which - what can I drop in without changing the K-member? Is it like a ford, any small block will fit in? Or can I wedge a 440 in without moding the frame?

Welcome, Marty!

Glad to see you here!  Looks like a nice project to work on.  As far as I know (which isn't much) any V8 except except a Hemi will fit into your current K-frame, just have to change the engine mounts.  There are posts as far as how to change a sb to a bb in your car if you check in the engines section or you can make a new post on the topic.  There's other stuff such as radiator, possibly torsion bars, engine wiring, etc... that you can see in more detail in those threads.

Lots of nice people here with great info (Although some may be at Carlisle now!).

Just remember, squirrel everything away in a dark corner of the basement and tell her there's mice down there!  Works for me!!!!  :roflsmiley:  :smilielol:

Welcome.  Any V8 will fit on a V8 K frame, except for the Hemi.  Just do a search for big block motor swaps, etc, on this board, and you will find everything you need to know.  I did it myself a couple years ago, along with a 4 speed swap.  Money not withstanding, the sky's the limit.  Jump in and enjoy.

Welcome to the site Marty. Looks like you are really jumping in feet first but that is the only way to learn about these cars. You have found the best MOPAR site on the internet and we will all help out when ever we can.

Welcome to the forum Marty.  There are a lot of folks on this site that can you with anything on a Challenger, I know , they helped me.   Post in the Members resto section and we can keep up with your progress there.  That way if you do something wrong we can all comment that the Ford and Chevy boys may have done it that way but................There is a correct way.   Enjoy............

  Welcome to the site, Marty.  I'm glad you left the dark side and joined up with the MOPAR force!  What are your plans with a paint color?
