speedo cable not spinning at tranny

speedo cable not spinning at tranny, cable is new, what next is there something in tranny bad if so what and how do i fix, 727 automatic tranny   thanks

It could be that the teeth have stripped of the speedo gear in the tranny or that the speedometer gear housing is incorrectly installed in the tranny.  It should be installed with the number of teeth on the speedometer gear indicated on the housing lining up with the indicating ridge on the trans.  You basicaly clock the housing around until it lines up.

I totally agree. On the housing, there are 3 different series of numbers. What ever gear you have installed, must match what ever gear range lines up with a tab at the bottom. For instance, if you have a 28 tooth gear, it needs the 26-31 range aligned at the tab. Also, as was stated, make sure your speedo gear isn't stripped.

 :iagree: Use the retaining "wishbone" washer to grab the insert in the indentations and spin it in the tranny   :2thumbs:
