Interior getting hot from engine
« on: July 13, 2008 - 04:56:17 PM »
Looking for some solutions for cutting down the engine heat that comes into the interior.  After the engine warms up, it's like I have the heater on full blast plus infinity!

Thanks

I used some reflective insulation material from Lowes and it keeps the heat out pretty good.  Got to pull the carpet though.

Header tape I hear works well. But it's not visually appealing to look at.

So did you do the firewall and the floorboards too?

I used Reflectix from Lowes with some 3M spray on adhesive.  I put mine all the way up the fire wall I could go.  Keeps the heat out pretty good and wasn't very expensive or difficult to use.

Same as Scatterbrain, up as high as the carpet on the firewall and over the entire floor.  The stuff is cheap and doesn't hold moisture.

If you are useing headers,  ceramic coated is the ONLY way to go to beat the heat.   :grinyes:

Getting hot in there?LOL

I bet you can bum some off of a local HVAC guy too.  You don't need that much.   I have a huge roll left over.

I purchased some "space blanket" type stuff off ebay -- insulation that is about 1/8 inch thick with silver backing -- high R value.    It really works great and I used it on both of mine.   On the '70 440, I just did the firewall as noted above (pulled the carpet back and got it as far up the firewall as possible.   It really helped.       On my '74, I was installing new carpet so with the seats out, I lined the whole interior of the car (including inside front door and rear panels and rear seat).    This worked incredibly well -- in addition to controlling the heat -- it REALLY cut down on road noise.   I think a roll of this stuff is like $25 bucks and I used 2 for the '74 and about 1/2 of one for the '70.     I highly recommend it!     I may have some pics if interested...

I went to Home Depot and bought 1/2" jute padding, did the entire floor and firewall. It helps with the heat and make's the interior much quieter. The stuff is cheap also.
Yes , Ceramic Coated headers will definity help too..
